Doing the backstroke and wishing you all a Happy Holiday Season!

Trying not to be nuts this season....

So, the friend of H's who believes in her multilevel marketing insurance company has moved to the Midwest, and her son is (supposed to be) moving all of her stuff into a storage unit. (I've already informed him that this is not the storage unit in question, and anything still here goes out on the sidewalk on the first. What happens to it after that is none of my concern - but it is rather wet this time of year...)

Meanwhile, another friend of hers, a fairly-newly-single father with custody of five children, is unemployed, is on a waiting list for assisted housing (theoretically that should be coming soon, due to his extreme need - the sixth child is about to get out of juvie, and as a condition of his release must have his own bedroom), and was just about to lose the motel room they'd all been staying in. So, my lovely wife, out of the goodness of her heart, agreed to put them up for a time. They should be out shortly after Christmas - a mantra I keep repeating to myself, in order not to go completely bugfrak insane with all these people and all their whining (well, the kids' whining - their father is pretty together, under the circumstances).

AAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!! !! !! !! !! !

And a Merry Christmas/Kwanzaa/Yuletide/Diwali/belated Hanukkah/whatever-other-solstice-holiday-floats-your-boat to you!

and now, for something completely different....

kid's cell phone has been working fine since being drenched in the rain and living for a week in a bag of rice (to dry it out) a month ago. today she turned it on and it says 'insert smart chip.' we've turned it off and taken the battery out, tried to clean the various connections (including under the sim chip) in case there was dust/rice powder in there, no change.

would it be reasonable to assume the sim chip is fried and we should order another? they sell them for $6 on the cingular website, but then how do we get it programmed for her number?

another little something I pinched from Google......

Well, I've been stuck with somebody else's unruly children for almost two weeks (they should be leaving today, rumor holds); I was down for three days, too sick and weary to move; we got about three inches of snow, no big deal even around here, except that it was then followed up with hail and sub-freezing temperatures (which should be letting up along about next Wednesday); and yesterday, our new dog nipped my nose - and being a chow, his nip pretty much covered my entire nose.

So, I figure the new year will have nowhere to go from here but up!

Oh Chow Aaaah! Not a dog for little children! Oh, but if he eats the unruly children, you'll never have to babysit again! ......

Sick but happy at this new year. A young woman has moved in with us, a hugger who will do household chores to pay for her rent. Yay! She is trying to find enough work to gain money for massage school. She has an AA and is super smart and so should find a way. Her dad is an aspie so she doesn't find me odd at all. Yay!
