Oh. The Hungarian wax peppers I thought were going to die are multiplying ferociously. The plant, which had three leaves and one forlorn pepper, now is a bush and has a dozen in the making.

I wonder precisely how one cooks a Hungarian Wax Pepper? I got the little plant because I felt sorry for it. And thought it was a Banana Pepper until I got it home and saw the label on the bottom.

Maybe you could substitute it for regular peppers? Are they hot in flavor like chilies?

"Although Hungarian wax peppers are medium-hot, you may want to wear gloves when working with them and usually the seeds are discarded before using the peppers in a dish. Wax peppers cook well and often will add just the right amount of heat to a dish so that it doesn't over power other flavors. You can use them fresh both at the yellow or red stages. We got 2, freakin count em!! !,.... TWO!! peppers this year. About on damn pare with every other freakin year in my backyard. Am I bitchin? Yup!! Deer ate em, drought killed em, I mean?!?... gimmie a damn break, let me at least try in a normal year?!? I would like 3 peppers, pulease, that is normal, right? Bountiful? 6 Plants, three peppers, methinks? Might have cost me a buck . 68 cents this year for the plants, but I could have (and did) bought 2...freakin huuuuuugggge peppers at Walmart for 78 cents each for A dolla 56 cent today, ...... come on damn it, who the hell grows them Walmart peppers? They don't have deer, no drought, no, no, no, I just don't freakin know anymore...... I have become damn near speechless. You should have seen the tomatoes this year... if you thought (and I told ya so), the peppers were bad, you should have seen the ROT!! ! OH MY GOD!! ! I lost 10 cents this year on peppers, I figures. Not including labor, of which I never do any, except.... We will not talk about the tomatoes. I did learn on those and will do better next, if I kill all the freakin deer!! ! I didn't even think deer ate tomatoes! No apples this year, maybe they're confused, ya think? :lol:

There are words that only occur with a prefix of a suffix. What happened to the originals? What's the last time when someone was called trepid? Or gormful, couth, or sipid? What is gorm anyway? And where are the other missing words? I had at least 7 or 8 of them, but my memory has turned to porridge. Can the sages of the cafe help find them? I'm sure some of them are perfectly usable words that deserve to be resurrected.

Most of my tomatoes are rotting away but I still have a few cherry tomatoes and a few bell peppers.
I still have a few butternut and crook-neck squash coming before the season winds down....

oh my. 8O

i think i will dry them and then pound them to powder for future use. i've read they can be anywhere from quite mild to pretty sturdily hot. we had some while they were still yellow and they were almost tasteless, a little bit (barely) bitter. perhaps they will be very mild... if so, i'll just cut them up in small bits with the red peppers and green peppers (bells) and freeze them for later in the year. we are still going strong here - we don't get frost ever, so the growing season really is only delineated by daylight. the pumpkin plants are going just berserk.

which is cool, because the kid planted 'em and always wanted to get pumpkins.

Next year, wire fences, search lights and a better dog then a lazy 230 pound English Mastiff named Ike.

The kale still grows, they didn't touch it, but I suppose you have to have a need for a "mess'0'greens" to even grow kale.

Peppers next door didn't get hit near as bad (even though the garden was closer to the field the deer come from), but I think they were banana peppers or some such thing? Colored type when ripe and mild when cooked and very good, not that the deer do, as they don't cook, yet, but they didn't kill the whole plant. Got a nibble and then left them alone? Anyway, they sort of survived enough to actually produce. Still, the lack of water was damn murder and if I was a deer, I would have left the kale alone too.

Looked into this whole "end blossom rot' a bit and not too lately, however..... I heard you need bone meal (pot plants like it too, f00's :)), which would be phosphorus, I do think, in greater amounts. On the other hand, I have heard what we saw this year is caused by too little rain and other years, too much rain. I have also heard you can go to the local store and get stuff that cost more to put down and fix it, then you would normally pay to just get the damn red things from Mexico, where they never have this problem and have plenty of pickers, ya think? Some plants are better grown in Mexico, true story :)

8$ a kilo in 70, no s**t, and all I could say was... wtf am I going to do with all that? I couldn't do that in 2 months, why waste it? So I didn't, but it was still good. I suspect it was the good phosphorus. And maybe the old idea of... tomorrow I'll die?...and then I didn't. Who knew?

"Blossom Rot", Zappa would have a good time with that wordage. I did. Hell if I ever have another kid, I think I know a name. I just might. After all, tomorrow isn't here yet.

My tomatoes are winding down and all the ripe ones on the vines are rotting, I guess I'll just have to pick the green ones and put
them in a container with green bananas. As the bananas ripen they give off ethylene and cause the tomatoes to ripen.
Blossom end rot can be prevented with lime. Tomatoes need calcium and magnesium, dolomite is a good source of both.
