Tempered Glass, I hope you enjoy and learn a lot on this site. One thing you mentioned: an accent. It cracks me up when people ask me where my accent is from. I was born here! What are they hearing?

Omg! I'm glad I'm not alone there! I hate that so much. I never know how to respond, either, so I just kind've smile and say something like I've lived all over so it's probably a mixture of a bunch of different accents. (Smiling and playing dumb is my social defense measure, haha.)

I mentioned this to my mom, by the way. She normally discredits all of my health ideas, and just keeps up the "No, I love you, you're perfect!" thing, so I expected that.
She wasn't shocked at all, and agreed with all my reasoning.

I MISSED MY APPOINTMENT. They schedule it for a different day/time every week, and I thought it was at 5.
I am so destroyed.
The receptionist chewed me out over the phone for "not letting them know I was going to cancel" UGH. I didn't CANCEL, I FORGOT THE TIME.
Man I feel horrible.

I can identify with a lot of what you posted.
I am uneasy, awkward and other ways confused in social situations I want friends but have trouble connecting - also may not be willing to listen to a lot of chattering.
I can be very focused
I am much older - 63 and only figured it out recently - was too busy getting out of the blind, dark alley I ran into.
When I was 39 I realized that self medicating was going to kill me. I joined a 12 step program and found a lot of people who were a lot like me
and I thought I had made a socialization breakthrough - and to an extend I did but I have come to understand that the folks there are often as socially handicapped as I am.
I have learned a lot in the past 20+ years including the fact that I am fine the way I am.
