Hello again.
I read Irulan's posts and I feared that sort of reaction but it didn't happen. As soon as I described HFA and said I had been diagnosed with it my mother announced that she has long thought she is on the spectrum but is happy with who she is and sees no point in putting a label on it.
That is pretty much my whole family's attitude: It's a label that may be useful to explain things about me but it doesn't change anything. They had been worried about my shaky hands (caused by severe anxiety) and were glad to know the cause but that's all.
That's exactly what I wanted so I'm very lucky compared with the adverse reactions many people here have had. I feel a lot calmer now.
I don't know if this will interest anyone except me but after all the advice I've been given it seems only polite to say what happened. Thanks again.
Sam
