Hey,

My mum and brother are both still responding a bit oddly about it and I've kind of had to make peace with that. Unfortunately our differences are often things which other people do subconsciously, and it is incredibly complex to explain anyway.

My dad is, and I've decided he really wouldn't accept it anyway, so I've left it. It's such a shame in many ways, but he's managed to do ok and find work which suits him etcetera.

I met a person with AS exactly the same as me (hypersensitive) Aspergers (and, of course like you) and it was great, it really seemed to settle my thoughts a lot as it made everything a lot more matter of fact. I still think I haven't fully accepted it all though.

I joined this forum recently as well and am about to get a cat.

All the best

Nigel

Welcome Nigel. I understand how comfortable it is to make a friend of someone who is like you and can takes things for granted.
My best friend and I really didn't know why we bonded so fast. Now I know. But I haven't mentioned it to him. He has different characteristics than I do, but now I recognize that he's definitely an Aspie.

I'm also noticing that we tend to love cats! Most people I know don't care for cats and I've always thought that cat lovers tend to be more nurturing and genuinely loving people. The only men I've ever had serious relationships with have liked cats.

Anyway...nice to meet you!

Welcome FutureCatLady... I'm glad you've finally found some sense of self-understanding and closure from your Asperger diagnosis. I, too, am a fan of cats. Mine turns 20 this year... and she's still going strong. She's really more of a "sister" than a pet at this point.
