What is your first name? Sami

Age: 35

Location: Finland

Hobbies and Interests: My hobbies and interests vary wildly all the time but ashtanga yoga, old/obscure computing equipment, swimming and theoretical philosophy have been with me for quite a long time now. I've, once again, got into (rather light) board games, like Yspahan or Dominion, lately.

Why are you here? I'm not really sure but I think I'd like to get connected with others with similar minds. This far I've socialized (with help of the internet) with Finnish aspies and it felt like a good idea to broaden my horizon a bit.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): I'm in the middle of progress of getting diagnosed.

Favorite subjects: My favourite subjects vary so wildly that almost anything goes. Depends on the day, of course.

Year/Grade: Master's on theoretical philosophy, college degree on computer science.

Favorite music: Classical, electronic.

Books: Mr. Vonnegut seems to be of my liking.

TV shows/Movies: Some new-wave french movies, some japanese.

Instrument: Lips.

Do you like sports? Watching it, no. Doing some, yes.

Family: None.

Clothing: Sometimes.

How did you find this website? Read an article about autism spectrum disorders from Wikipedia.

Job: Linux systems administrator.

Plans for the future? Get a home and settle down in it. Trying to stay as healtly as possible, both mentally and physically.

TV shows/Movies: Shawshank Redemption, A Tale of Two Sisters, Equilibrium, various anime series, Dexter

What is your first name? Leah Jane. (My first name is pronounced "Lay-ah", not "Lee-ah") Typically I'm called Ms Encyclopedia or some other nickname though.

Age: 19 years old.

Location: Missoula, Montana, in the United States. Originally from Hawaii, but going to university here in Missoula.

Hobbies and Interests: Swimming, playing chess, reading poetry, fiction and nonfiction, walking, listening to music, painting fans.

Why are you here? Wanting to find a community where my "oddities" are the norm, rather than a topic of ridicule or curiosity.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): I was diagnosed at age 14, shortly after my father died. When he had been alive, he had refused to let me see a psychologist, as he was militantly opposed to the idea of psychology.

Favorite subjects: Art History, World cultures and languages, especially those of Asia, and Literature.

Year/Grade: Sophomore (Year 2) at University.

Favorite music: Classical, folk, alternative, Klezmer, Hawaiian, metal, classic Japanese, punk, and classic rock, along with soundtracks to films I like.

Books: The Good Earth, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Le Petit Prince, Woman of the Dunes, The Prophet, The Poisonwood Bible. I have many more favourites, but those are my top books I could read over and over again.

TV shows/Movies: I really like movies, I have a rather long list of directors I like, which I won't post here. TV shows, I have little patience for serialized ones, as the plot lines stretching over a waiting period cause me much impatience.

Instrument: I enjoy classical music, and attempt to emulate the music of my favourite composer, Igor Stravinsky, on the piano, as well as learn the national anthems of countries, which I have a semi encyclopedic knowledge of. But I'd truly like to learn the violin, since I love klezmer and Itzhak Perlman so much.

Do you like sports? I have poor motor skills, but I enjoy swimming, kayaking, sailing, skuba diving, Aikido, bike riding, tennis, rock climbing, yoga and running.

Family: Since my father died, my family's been me, my mother and younger sister, along with my mother's boyfriend.

Clothing: I have two distinct clothing styles, I'm very picky about clothing. One taste in clothing, I call my "corbeau" style, after the French word for "crow" since I tend to favour black clothing and glossy fabrics like silk and satin which imitate the gloss of a crow's feathers. I also sometimes refer to it as "la garconne" style, since it tends to consist of traditionally male clothing like woolen pants, suit jackets, hats, and suspenders. My other style, I refer to as "papillon" after the French word for butterfly, is much lighter in terms of colours, favouring light purples, blues, and dark reds, silky fabrics (I'm sensitive to tactile sensations and enjoy the sensations that silk and other light fabrics bring to me) and are usually more airy to wear, like skirts and light blouses.

How did you find this website? I wrote a post about Asperger Syndrome and sexism on the website feministing, and one of the commenters kindly directed me to this website to find a community of people with Asperger Syndrome.

Job: Currently a student and work-study.

Plans for the future? To become a professor of Japanese literature and art history, maybe do comparative literature of 19th century Russian literature and modern Japanese literature, or Japanese women poets of the Meiji era and beyond; or perhaps go into politics and be an advocate for people on the autistic spectrum and their families.

Any comments? I am happy to have found this website.

What is your first name? Rob

Age: 20

Location: Cape Cod, MA

Hobbies and Interests: Too many. Programming, cooking, security/intelligence, cycling, yoga, gymnastic tricks, foreign cultures, languages, horror movies, tons of music, silly pictures of cats, my cat (UFO for Unidentified Feline Object), and basically anything new. I'm really, really open to all sorts of things except small talk.

Why are you here? My (former) girlfriend decided to identify as a lesbian. Following her lead, I'm trying to be more honest with myself.

When were you diagnosed? (skip if you don't have a disorder): Self-diagnosed a few months ago after spending years trying to shoehorn myself into any other category.

Favorite subjects: English was a particular favorite.

Year/Grade: Currently out of school, but looking to go back for architecture or computer science if I can put together the money and such.

Favorite music: Poe, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, CAKE, Brand New... lots of post-rock and indie but I really do listen to everything. I just don't have a ton of mainstream pop or rap.

Books: Haruki Murakami! That and textbooks. Oh and House of Leaves is my bible practically.

TV shows/Movies: I don't have a TV but I used to watch M.A.S.H., House, Prison Break, and Dexter. I've still been known to watch Kenny vs. Spenny, Family Guy, The Daily Show, and Futurama though. Not a big TV person really, but movies are where it's at. I watch TV like I watch movies--a season all at once. Mostly, I watch foreign films with subtitles (because some of us don't hear so well), especially of the horror variety. But basically anything goes if it's a good film.

Instrument: A teensy bit of guitar, but I don't own one anymore.

Do you like sports? Only as a participant. Cycling primarily.

Family: I have a family, but I'm not especially close with them.

Clothing: Homeless stylin'. Beat up sneakers, jeans, tshirts, hoodies. I also mix it up with button-down shirts, but I'm not so fancy. I enjoy practical and comfortable clothing, even if it is a touch worn.

How did you find this website? I don't really remember, but my browser history could tell me if I wasn't too lazy to check it.

Job: I work as a line cook at a pizza place called Wicked. It's got wicked awesome food and the kitchen staff are pretty professional for the most part.

Plans for the future? Go to college, make real friends beyond the 4 or so people I consider my true friends.

Any comments? I'm extremely minimalist. To give you an idea, I prefer to sleep with a futon mattress on the floor. I don't own a chest of drawers, although I do have a nightstand and I hang shirts up in my closet. Material possessions don't make me happy--just intelligent companionship.

How did you find this website?
Google, and an article in Glamour about a couple who were both HFA

Job:

Seasonal, doesn't start till July. Freelance editing in the meantime.

Plans for the future?

At least one degree in child youth care work or environmental science

Any comments?

Like I've said previously, to the untrained eye I'm all but neurotypical. I can do sarcasam, body language etc and I'm usually just mistaken as 'grumpy'. Thankfully, I have a few AMAZING friends at school who've known me since kindergarten and can often politely explain before introducing me so there aren't any rude surprises when I do have 'aspy' moments (Tired, low blood sugar, bad day). In short, I seem to have things figured out and life's pretty much good.

Language, retailing, business, media, food, but that list will change.

Favorite music:
Almost all.

Books:
I bought an Amazon Kindle to save money on buying books and paying shipping. There isn't a particular topic over a long term because I'll get a fascination and read and read on it until I think I can write a book on the subject.

Do you like sports?
I do not like watching them because of the noise. I played Ringette for years, which is similar to hockey.

Family:
They're awesome. My fiance, son, daughter, mum, sister, granny, and I'm making friends.

Clothing:
Gotta be comfortable.

How did you find this website?
Internet

Job:
I started a weighted blanket business for you and me to relax and induce some seratonin.

Plans for the future?
Grow my business because it's my obsession because it's fun, easy, complex, and I don't have to work in an office. I'm going to get married to John. I want to take up weight lifting again.

Any comments?
Last year, I discovered that I can sing karaoke. My younger self never would have envisioned it. I turned 40 and I blossomed.
