Red Mage is one of my favourite Final Fantasy 1 characters.

So I named myself after him.

I only know Red Mage from the 8-bit-theater webcomic.

I came up with my username a few years ago when I was trying to come up with a 'cool' new e-mail address. I'd been talking with my therapist and had come to the realization that I've experienced a lot in my life, while still at a relatively young age. I can also be incredibly immature at times (well, I think we *all* can!) and I don't always act very responsibly. I was feeling young and old at the same time...hence, newborncrone: new-old. Sometimes people assume it's a wiccan reference (crone = witch; thus wiccan or pagan), but no. I've tried my share of 'alternative' religions, wicca included, but they're all a little too organized for me. If anything, I'm a secular humanist and agnostic to the core.

Me too. 8-bit-theater is my brother's obsession, and I kinda like it too.

My name? A very nerdy quasi-pun. Eschew obfuscation means to avoid being confusing, in what is generally considered confusing language. (a classmate called it "not even on the known list) Also, I've been using it for about a year now, since I needed a unsername for a school forum...

8-Bit Theater is based on Final Fantasy I. It also had the main character of Final Fantasy VII, Cloud, in episodes 18 and 19. He was the one with blue clothes and yellow spikey hair who summoned a chocobo and couldn't hold his gigantic Buster Sword. I also just noticed that in episode 19 the word "gigantic" was misspelled "giantic".

Normaly in the computer world my nick is quite known as Xtal. But since the 80's, more and more people has began to use the nick, I've even been in name struggles for the right to the nick, but nowadays I'm known as Xtal, and SweXtal.

The nick comes from a US shortening of Chrystal. The little Quartz chrystal that makes things tick. Computers, watches, embedded stuff, ethernet, you name it. Xtal is the US shortening for Chrystal.

In computer scene, it was a completely logical decision. In fast talk with a coding team when producing something, to shave time, it was shortened to just "X"

On arcade machines with three positions, it whas shortened XTL.

When I grew up, say, about 10 years old, I actually had been GIVEN a nick quite hard to pronounce and I will translate it to english. MULp. This in swedish stands for "Mickes Underbara Leksaker produkter", Which in translation to english is somewhat "Mickes wonderful toys products". So in english it would read MWTp.

Xtal--similar to Xtina, in reference to Christina Aguilera.

I have been a secular humanist since July of this year, after the pastor of the Lutheran church I had attanded for 4 years moved out of state, and his successor had a spotty attendance record.

Mine just sort of... came to me. I have a tendency to come up with names only to find out that they've already been created, however, this is not such a case. The two names seemed to fit well to me, and I only recently figured out the irony of this:

Ceallach is derived from the Gaelic "ceallach", meaning "war, strife", and Solomon is derived from the Hebrew "Shelomah", meaning "peace". So, my name basically means "War & Peace". And, well, that's me to a T.

Yeah, his DnD skillz are second to none, and the best part is, they WORK. It's surprising how good the Red Mage is, having the ability to not only fight rather well, but also to use Black AND White magic. He deserves a trophy.

...or, at least a pizza. Maybe a pizza trophy.

It's a shame he hasn't really been brought back in the later FFs, except for the less-than-amazing Viera incarnation a la Tactics Advance. It's a shame what became of him, really.

Red Mage is the only Red Mage I've used in a FF game. :?

Mine is inspired by A Beautiful Mind, one of my biggest obsessive fixations. It's from the quote in my signature, where Nash finds his true love, Alicia, since they're both "odd ducks." I love that quote because I'm quite an "odd duck." The "99" is just my favorite number.

I've been to a number of message boards under a multitude of different user names. Rather than think of something completely new for this board, I picked GenericBrandUserName, instead of something specific. :O
