What is your first name? Jay

Age: 18 c:

Location: UK

Hobbies and Interests: Art, music, textiles, I don't do organised hobbies or anything.

Why are you here? I joined ages ago with intention to post but then I moved house and forgot about it, I'm just bored and want to post online and I figure this forum is the best place to post without having to worry about talking to people.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Umm about a year or so ago.

Favorite subjects: Art and English literature.

Year/Grade: I should have just finished college (6th form age) but I was really ill the last two years which led up to my diagnosis so I'm just restarting college this year.

Favorite music: Loads :) I love music, mainly alternative rock, some electronic and some acoustic but I like most things.

Books: Any with a unique writing style that is intelligent and non pretentious. I love Kurt Vonnegut's writing.

TV shows/Movies: Rarely watch TV, when I do it's just trash TV because it's too hard to keep up with dramas. As for films I love psychological horror/thrillers and fun independent movies with good soundtracks.

Instrument: Electric guitar, and piano but I am not great at either. I want so much to play the drums but I can't have a kit at home and the only one I can play is in a different city which I don't visit very often.

Do you like sports? Haha. No, I love exercise but I am not competitive at all and I have bad experience with team sports :x

Family: Parents divorced when I was too young to know or care, it doesn't affect me at all in fact I actually would hate to have a functional family. Also I am an only child.

Clothing: I love clothes, I love fashion but not in the sense of keeping up with trends and stuff, rather high fashion and being creative and using clothes as art.

How did you find this website? Don't remember, probably Google or something.

Job: I wish D: Finding a job is hard.

Plans for the future? College, I want to get the best possible grade. I have no plans beyond the next 2 years or for the future. I never have, I just don't think like that.

Any comments? No :]]

I should have done this earlier.

What is your first name?
Navi

Age: 25

Location: NorCal

Hobbies and Interests: Working on cars, computers(working on them, programming them is a different beast), finding out how things work, snowboarding(which is one hell of an antidepressant in the winter), photography. I've been trying my hand at surfing and yoga I admit - I've been better at the latter than the former.

Why are you here? I stumbled across here.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Once when I was a kid and again in 2001. AS/HFA and ADHD.

Favorite subjects: In high school and college I liked my history courses, and now I like my IT classes

Year/Grade: Super Senior in college

Favorite music: Most everything

Books: The Catcher in the Rye, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, One Flew Over the Cukkoo's Nest - but I'm not much of a reader

TV shows/Movies: 24, some reality shows like Dirty Jobs or Hell's Kitchen, documentaries.

Instrument: Used to play when I was a kid - both trumpet and clarinet

Do you like sports? I watch football and baseball, used to dabble in soccer and had a brief stint in water polo. See, my motor skills are pretty good but not excellent.

Family: Dysfunction, LFA brother and I know my dad has some form of AS/HFA

Clothing: Depends on the way. When it's cold, a nice pair of jeans and a crew neck or button-up shirt with a pair of slip-on shoes, if it's hot, shorts/t-shirt/sandals.

How did you find this website? Google

Job: I used to work. I want to again.

Plans for the future? Graduate from college, find a job related to my major, find that special someone that may result in an relationship

Any comments?

What is your first name?
Larry

Age:
52

Location:
Earth (it's the blue and white one, third one out with a single moon), In the Northern hemisphere, you'll see two large oceans, and a land mass in between them that looks like it has a tail on the bottom. Well, I'm somewhere on the mid to lower left part of that continent, in a place the natives call "L.A."

I chose this planet because it's blue, and blue is my favorite color and the other blue planets around here are too blasted cold!

Hobbies and Interests:
Motorcycles,
guitars (fixing up more than playing, but I'm trying to play)

Why are you here?
I must be an Aspie because I don't "get" most of the natives on this blue planet. That, and Google is my friend.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):
Self diagnosed, about the same time I found this web site. (Yeah, I'm smart enough to make my own diagnosis. You guys know what I mean, right?) Finally, I think I found my "peeps"!

Favorite subjects:
electronics (first obsession from childhood, well after my insect phase)
computers (I work in the industry, so it's not a favorite anymore)
TV and film production
motorcycles
electric guitars (recently acquired obsession)
Oh: I guess you meant "school" subjects. Well, when I was in school, they were:
Elementary school:
I liked science (astronomy and insects especially)
Junior High:
Shop class: metal shop and electronics (Yes, kids, we learned how to build stuff in middle school and they let us handle sharp tools.) Last time I visited my old Jr. High school, my metal shop class was filled with Macs. (Maybe it was because in my day some kids made ninja throwing stars in metal shop.)
High School:
Electronics
Auto shop
Audio/Video, giving me strong "projector geek" tendancies. You baby boomers know what I mean!
College:
Computer programming (Computers were still huge and expensive back then, when java was only coffee.)

Year/Grade:
I'd be in 37th grade (if I stayed in school continuously)

Favorite music:
Alternative, Progressive Rock, and electronic (I try to stay with the times but not so much pop or hip hop. Most people in my age group, if you asked them about Arcade Fire, they'd picture burning pinball machines!)
Most music that was popular during my life, from the 60's on.
I also went through a jazz phase, and still like what I guess is progressive jazz, and some blues.

Books:
Never much of a book reader, though I'm into Dune now (very late bloomer in literature)

TV shows/Movies:
Shows that never get old on my TiVo:
The IT Crowd (All you Aspies have got to find this show, it's the best comedy about computer geeks I've seen!)
Big Bang Theory (Another show I'm sure is a hit with the Aspie community)
Two and a Half Men
Top Gear
Hyperdrive (British comedy, short run but worth the hunt for it)

Instrument:
Guitar (badly, due to poor muscle coordination: I know the chords, but can't get into position in time. This is a very recent development)
Before, I was obsessed with keyboards and synthesizers, and wanted to play, but didn't stick with it. I got more into patching different sounds than actually playing a tune.

Do you like sports?
Mmeh..... Hated them when I was a kid.
Motorsports maybe for watching.
For participating, I used to bicycle, scuba dive and ski. (I could still cycle and ski if I just got off my butt. Thanks for reminding me!)

Family:
Ummm, yes?
Oh: I get it now:
My birth mom was an alcoholic, gave us kids up to foster homes.
Dad fought to get us kids when I was 7 (Yeah, in the 60's, a mother could convince a court the kids were better off in foster homes than with their natural father if he didn't have a house.)
Brother is an alcoholic, recovering almost 5 years now
When I was 13, I was lucky my Dad married the step-mother who I consider my "real" mom, and I'm lucky to enjoy a relationship with both parents and my brother (brother came back from exile a few years ago).

Clothing:
Whatever's at Marshall's or Ross. (Yeah, I'm a real fashion plate.) I wear whatever looks "acceptable", that's inexpensive and hopefully long lasting.

How did you find this website?
Figuring out I may be Aspie

Job:
Computer tech.

Plans for the future?
Umm, try to keep my job until I can retire (you computer people know how the biz is going), maybe find someone who can put up with my quirks, hopefully die very old but not alone, and then find out if there's an afterlife, and if there's reincarnation, see if I get to choose how I come back.

Any comments?
I dunno, maybe I'll write a longer article for myself soon.

I'm too old to have been diagnosed in childhood. I think you youngsters have an advantage, because (1) you know what your social disadvantage is (which was a mystery to me) and have your youth to work around it and adapt, and (2) people are more tolerant nowadays than they were in the sixties.

When I was growing up, kids had different terms for Autism (ret*d) and Aspergers (ret*d, spaz, and geek, back when geeks weren't "cool" like they are now). Yeah, I got called all those names and more, and frequently got punched for no reason, which I now understand is probably either because I looked at someone wrong, or didn't send signals other kids could understand.

Well, I've spent too much time tweaking and editing this, and wrote too much. But, I guess you guys understand that, right?
