why do you want to know everyone's sexual orientation?

An asexual is someone who doesn't want sex because (s)he doesn't have interest in it. Many asexuals have significant others (I'm asexual and have a girlfriend, for example). Others do not want a significant other (the ones who don't are called "a-romantic").

This poll should not have included asexual and should instead have asked for a romantic orientation and included "a-romantic" instead of "asexual" because he was asking two very different things. I could have answered "straight" or "asexual" but chose "asexual" because that's the one I identify with more strongly, but either would have been accurate.

I'm just curious about the demographics. I don't care about any individuals orientation. For example, I was surprised that (initially) all male respondents were straight.

I work at a Library. I'm obsessed with statistics.

I know a guy working at a library as well. He's obsessed with heraldic signs and military history, especially Swedish and German. He's also had a book or two published. He most probably is an undiagnosed aspie. I don't know if I behave like an NT coward don't telling him or if it's best just the way it is. I don't know him in person, just via the net.

My experience, on both sides of the issue, is that it's best not to talk about "Asperger's," but instead talk about "feeling different."

See. How do you like it when other people talk about you like they know about you? I don't know s**t about what your motivations are, but I know how your accusations make me feel. Maybe you're just trying to piss me off, but I'm not going to say that's the case because I don't know that it is. So what, you can read my mind or somethin'? Well you need to get your psychic radar fixed because it's clearly not working right. Being the only person who knows what's going on in my mind, I can say that. AS I SAID BEFORE, I have no interest in any individual’s orientation. Are you callin' me a liar?

So what does working in a library have to do with it? Are you compiling these statistics for the government?

No. Librarians are (or appear to be) obsessed with statistics. Door counts, which we take hourly at the FSU Library, number of inquiries, by hour, nature of inquiry, informational or reference, computer usage, circulation stats, just to name a few. Personally, I am currently involved in an assessment (inventory) of the entire collection of print materials, well over a million titles in 4 locations. The project is estimated to take more than 5 years. So to say, "I work at a Library. I'm obsessed with statistics." is kinda a joke about libraries and the people who work there. I'm not so obsessed as I am curious, but I do love to count things. Lots of things.

Are some of you folks thinking that this is not an anonymous poll? Your name is not entered into the voting results, so what's the problem? There will be no consequence from being honest, this time.

No, this is a very unscientific poll designed to satisfied my curiousity about demographics. I only wish we had better tools so we could cross-reference some of the data. (What type of ulterior motivations will be projected onto that?)
