I'm sensitive to light, sound, and smell.

Specifically sunlight, artificial light, border collies (We have two), and vinegar and cigarette smoke.

Once in cooking class I had to leave because I felt like I'd throw up.

Go ahead and chew that leather!

When I joined the Royal Navy, they made us watch all these films about keeping health, films of young men queing up in the morning to take a dump, keep regular they said.

About the only one I though was of use was about these Esximos sitting in thier igloos chewing on seal skin all day to make thier clothes with.
Turns out its good for your teeth, chewing on leather, causes the whole tooth to turn to hard enamel or something, apparently the esximos dont even have a word for tooth decay as it doesnt exist for them. (though I bet it does now if Coca Cola has reached that far!).

c) Another part of my taste that is unique (and I'm sure many on here can agree) is that I'm sensitive to texture. I mostly prefer crunchier foods with a more distinct physical structure than something just gooey or mushy, unless it's ice cream or something. This is a large part of the reason why I crunch ice too much and even chew on plastic bottle caps. Then again, I have a very strong jaw.

Oh wow, I thought I was the only one with the chewing thing! I especially love salty crispy foods, those are the best. Stuff like noodles and mushy things of that nature are enough to make me sick.

And leather! I used to drive my mum up the WALL chewing on anything leather she bought. I chewed the absolute crap out of this leather saddle she bought, must have cost a fortune, I chewed it all up. Something about the smell and the taste... its really nice and comforting.

Also, farm animal salt licks! I love those things. You can get mineral ones, so tasty.

And I'm about to lose my mind, BF is setting up his surround system which involves a LOT of white noise travelling about the room. Its killing me...

Light: I have a high sensitivity to artificial light, but I crave sunlight.

Sounds: Alarms physically hurt me -- it's like I'm being stabbed in the ears. I also have no use for barking dogs and screaming children.

Smells: Cigarette smoke and many cleansing chemicals. The only cleansers I can use are the ones with citrusy smells. I'm also put off by the smell of alcohol -- both the drinkable kind and the cleaning kind.

Hi, I'm new - my first post!

Light: a flourescent light at work would blink really fast half the day. No one else even noticed it, but it not only gave me constant headaches, but made me SO irritable that I wanted to rip it out and jump on it until it was a million pieces. Eventually, I climbed up on my desk and pulled the bulb out of the socket. Much better now, even if everyone else has more confirmation that I'm a little weird.

Smell: Cigarettes! 'nuf said.

Sound: I have what they told me as a kid was a hearing deficiency but I've always thought of as having nothing to do with the ear and everything to do with its connection to the brain: the background noise thing. If someone is talking to me and there is other conversation or noise, I can't tell what they are saying without a bit of lip reading. Or if people behind me talk during a lecture or movie, I can't comprehend what I want to hear at all. Maybe it's that I'm too sensitive to all the sounds coming in to be able to pluck out the ones I want to hear from the background noise. I am unable to tune out sounds.

Touch: I am the most ticklish person in the world! I scream and jump a mile high when tickled. And my scream, like my laugh, is socially unacceptably loud and piercing, so luckily eventually the unpleasantness of my reaction overcomes the pleasure people get from tickling (namely: rendering the victim helpless) and they stop. And I swear I feel pain more intensely than most but maybe that's just me-centric.

Yea, I've been told the same thing. Whats weird is for me, its only certain sounds. Sometimes people look at me, cause I ask, Can you hear that, over and over, and they hear nothing, and then they try and talk to me, and I caint hear a bloody word they say. I learned to lip read really young cause of that, so that made life a bit more bearable.

And I've noticed a lot of you guys complain about flourescent lights... but is anyone else bugged by sunlight? I have no trouble being indoors, no matter how bright, but I caint even go outside on a cloudy day without a pair of sunnies.

I am sensitive to light. I must wear sunglasses if there is any hint of sunlight outside, even when it's overcast. I also cannot have the overhead light on in my room, it's too bright and I don't like the way it illuminates things. Two lamps it is. I also cannot look at a monitor or TV screen in the dark, or else I get headaches, but that might be universal.

I am also sensitive to smell. I smell things other people can't, and I smell things sooner than other people do. Some kinds of perfume or cologne make me have to hold my breath. I also have superior olfactory memory. I can identify people by their smells, and freak out when people change shampoos or something normally insignificant.

I can also be sensitive to sound, although not as much as the other two. I get sound headaches if I am at work too long (I work in a restaurant, a naturally noisy environment). But playing with my sound sensitivity can be good, for instance, with music. I can also exhibit minor instances of synesthesia. Music makes me perceive colours, and sometimes images. I also do not enjoy fireworks, or anything intermittently loud, but I do like the sounds of sirens.

I have common experience with both of these points, and forgot to mention the first one in my essay above :-P

Try "Pet Smart" or any good pet supply stores. Leather bones might be what your looking for.

You put it well as far as the eyes go. I find that i cannot stand fluorescent lights at all. I also dislike computer monitors for a long time. They seem to put me in some kind of trance and make it hard to focus on anything. Night driving is very difficult too, because of the lights. I also wear sunglasses and a hat at work very often. My boss has no problem as long as i dont wear them inside. This is fine, because my job has mostly natural lighting and it is dimmed a bit. My car even has the darkest tint i could get. You also might see if you can get away with rose tinted glasses.. they seem to help with light intensity and could still be passed off as glasses.

As far as smell goes, i cant stand some cleaners that are used in the dr offices we deliver food to. i dont like perfume unless it smells like fruit or other sweet foods. There are bath shops that i would like to spend more time in, but there are just too many smells to take in at once. The smell of a dog or anything a dog has touched absolutely disgusts me. coffee although is one of my favorites.

Hearing is right up there... i can relate to the sirens. I have to cover my ears along with fire alarms, screaming kids and off beat or off key singing.

Such a noisy, smelly flashy world we live in.

Light: I like dim, yellowish lights and I don't use lights bulbs above 40 watts. I always wear shades outside my house, except at work of course. I've always had issues with the colors pink, white, and blue, but it's not as bad as it used to be.

Sound: I've always had hearing problems so I got tested and learned my hearing is better than that of a newborn. It turns out I have central auditory processing disorder. I have trouble understanding what other people are saying, especially when there's background noise, but I'm really sensitive to the nuances in music. I like loud music, either live or in an analog format. But music I don't like can actually make me feel sick.

Smell: I cannot stand the smell of yogurt.

Taste: There are certain foods that give me something like a panic attack. My throat tenses up, I hyperventilate, and I certainly can't swallow. Eggs, yogurt and lima beans are the worst. I like the taste of metal. I used to lick the front door knob when I was little. I also used to drink water out of the garden hose because I liked the plasticky taste.

Texture: I have a habit of twirling a pen between my fingers. The pen's smooth texture feels good. I can't stand the feeling of my thighs touching so I avoid wearing dresses and I sleep with part of the blanket between my legs. Some of my favorite textures are cats' fur and soft, well-worn cotton. I also like eating crunchy things. I tend to dislike foods that are slimy or liquidy.
