What is your first name? Lumi (in the Finnish language, it means 'snow')

Age: 21

Location: Somewhere

Hobbies and Interests: Reading about the Autism spectrum and other special needs (started mostly when I was 15, listening to my favorite music, online gaming, online art, writing about my life with Asperger Syndrome online, learn the Finnish language, and sometimes writing poetry

Why are you here? This forum has people, experiences, and voices I can resonate with for the first time, and learn from. After I decided I want to learn more from others with ASD's to retain my mentality of who I am and what autism is more accurately.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): 16, by a psychiatrist who specialized in types of autism and knew autism symptoms in females. Understanding how differently I learned (previously compared to non-autistics) and why I was miserable more and more was rather difficult to cope with until I was diagnosed, found out more about Asperger after that and what most symptoms mean for me as an adult. Autism became really special for me way more now in this time of my life than ever before...

Favorite subjects: none, maybe art

Year/Grade: High school graduate

Favorite music: Christian rock, Finnish rock, instrumental soundtracks, psytrance

Books: Aspergirls, Naruto, In the Grip of Grace

TV shows/Movies: X-Men Evolution, Beyblade Metal Fight, Johnny Test, Young Justice/ X-Men, Lord of the Rings, Tarzan

Instrument: Wish I could teach myself the acoustic guitar

Do you like sports: Not really

Family: Mom, cat, church family

Clothing: jeans, comfortable t-shirt or tank

How did I find this website: Google

Job: Not yet able to work, but having occupational therapy and I love it there!

Future Plans: Learn to improve my communication, help others with autism (in person, not sure what specifically yet), visit Finland and learn enough Finnish to be my second language, gain independence and much needed skills

Why are you here? To try to understand my (very likely) AS.

Books: The Wasp Factory, 1984, Born On a Blue Day, The Raw Shark Texts.
TV shows/Movies: The Crow, The Newsroom, Fight Club, Red Dwarf

Do you like sports? No
Family: Just married. Have 2 siblings but felt very distant from them for as long as I can recall.

How did you find this website? Good ol' Google

Already done this before, but why not do it again for the new crowd.

What is your first name? Alexander, but I go by Sasha.

Age: 21

Location: Northern New York. I divide my time between the Catskills, New York City and NNY.

Hobbies and Interests: Graphic design, building and fixing computers, writing (I'm working on a book series about the life of an outgoing girl with autism who is a high school/college cheerleader), train and flight simulation, transportation, history, politics, etc. And autism.

Why are you here? Because of the like-minded people here. And to find auties and aspies like me, the ones who are outgoing but are social klutzes. And a gazillion other reasons I'm unsure of.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Unofficially in 2003 and again in 2005. Officially in the fall of 2008.

Favorite subjects: History, political science, speech communication (the study of human communication)

Year/Grade: Graduated from SUNY Potsdam in August of this year (walked in May and took a summer class). Feel free to look up the school. And no, I was not a music major.

Favorite music: Classic rock, anything except for rap and country and contemporary Christian music (because for some reason the two just don't go together).

Books: The classics. A lot of pre-revolutionary Russian literature. Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Turgnev, Chekov. Biographies I like too. Political satire, memoirs, etc. As long as it hasn't been marketed (a la Hunger Games), I'm good.

TV shows/Movies: South Park, 2 Broke Girls, 1,000 Ways to Die, Absolutely Fabulous

Instrument: None

Do you like sports? Hockey, soccer, tennis. I'm a New York Mets fan by association, but I do root for the Yanks on rare occasion. I can't play though. Just not athletic enough. But I

Family: Mother, stepfather, two younger half brother (older one is 13, younger is 12), younger stepbrother (who is 16). My stepdad works and lives in the city and comes home often. My older stepbrother and younger full brother have moved out already. And I have a boatload of relatives on both sides of the Atlantic.

Clothing: Graphic tees, polos, jeans during the winter (if it's below 45F or 7C, if above I wear shorts, but I don't do jeans above 65F).

How did you find this website? I found this place four years ago, obviously I forget how I came across WP.

Job: Still looking. Maybe something temporary until I fully relocate back downstate.

Plans for the future? Get hitched, have no more than three kids and run for lieutenant governor of New York. As far as I know, there has never been an elected public official on the autism spectrum. I would like to change that.

Any comments? The autism community is one that is pretty far from judgmental and is pretty accepting. I guess it's because it's a melting pot in itself. I am an enigma.

Ha, I can certainly relate to the outgoing social kluts thing. After being such an outsider through school and 6th form, I went to a university where I could make a fresh start. Nobody knew me so I sort of created a bit of an alter-ego. A mega-confident rocker/punk type with the leather jacket and the mohawk and the facial piercings. Joined the Rock Music Society there were friendships were much easier to form as you knew everyone shared interests. Turns out that walking around a busy town looking like that, people actually avoid making eye contact - Bonus! It's a mask i wear to this day and helps me a lot in social situations - I feel like people focus on all this window-dressing and less on any social quirks I have.

Only just fully understanding now that this is part of why I choose to look like that.
