My name is a reference to a Simpsons episode in the 98-99 season and it's also my user ID on the official Simpsons forums, No Homers Club.

Mine I took from Edgar Allan Poe's short story, The Assignation.

"There are surely other worlds than this-- other thoughts than the thoughts of the multitude-- other speculations than the speculations of the sophist. Who then shall call thy conduct into question? who blame thee for thy visionary hours, or denounce those occupations as the wasting away of life, which were but the overflowings of thine everlasting energies?"

The word "sophist" isn't held in very high regard in this quote, but I loved it all the same. I use it to mean "thinker" from it's root meaning knowledge, thought, or wisdom. But it also means, at least around Poe's time, someone who uses false arguments convincingly. And I suppose that's also accurate for me at times as well. Or at least the false arguments part. I don't know about convincingly. Nor purposefully.

I had wondered why you choose that name. :D

Actually sophist means "expert" or "clever person" in the neutral sense and "trickster" in a more pejorative sense. It doesn't come from the Greek sophia as often thought, but sophizesthai, which means to play tricks or be clever. The Sophists wre a Greek school of thinkers who Socrates explosed for their fallacious and misleading claims and arguments, and so over the years, seeing history favors Socrates (and in this cases, rightly so), the term has taken on the meaning of someone who tricks and misleads people through clever and articulate, yet false arguments or oration. Normally it is not used in a positive sense.

Kewel. :D Thanks for the info. :D

I was always a big fan of Mork & midy as a child. About a year ago I decided to give myself an alias and chose Mork. He was always weird and from another planet same as me and it seemed appropriate.

I wanted to have a funny screen name, and decided I wanted some kind of sarcasm in it. I couldn't think of anything, and just put this.

I have the mind of a Londoner, and I tend to despise having any form of authority imposed upon me. If anybody tries to make me conform to the rules of North American Society, I get very irritated, and my stripes begin to show. I also have quite the Accent for somebody who was born in North America. I've been told by a few people, that my Accent matches my Attitude. By the way, my stripes come out in the form of the Union Jack.

Mine comes from the cartoon, as would be obvious by the avatar. I picked it back in 1987 or 88 when I signed onto a Citadel BBS for the first time. I needed to think of a nickname in a hurry, and that was one of my favorite cartoons when I was very young. A lot of people have been calling me Jetson in real life for so long now they probably don't even remember my real name.

I found it interesting to see most of the G-Force/BotP/Gatchaman characters on WP when I arrived, as I would probably have taken Keyop as a second choice if Jetson was already in use. Of the five, he was the one I most identified with, even though I didn't stutter.

Mine is Latin for “Let There Be Light”. It’s my own mark of respect to the 18th century movement known as The Age of Enlightenment. Thinkers during this age (such as Rousseau, Voltaire and Descartes) saw their ideas as leading people away from superstition, mysticism and tyranny, and towards the belief that an ordered universe behaved according to laws that could by understood by reason. Personally, I do identify with such principles.
Nowadays, reason itself appears to be discredited and many people do not strive for understanding. However, there are many people on this site who DO strive for learning and knowledge, and employ reason and logic in the pursuit of these. This may be an Aspergian trait, but long may it continue!

But Omega must have SOME significance, becos the simbol for Ohms is the Greek letter for Omega. Mabey Omegas like, a superconductor - the END of electrical resistance (allthogh that woodnt exactly make it better for sumone who chose it as a name becos it has to do with resistance lol

Simple: I like the traditional British dessert rhubarb and custard (even though the rhubarb gets stuck in my braces). It was going to be rhubarb&custard because that looks cooler but the !#$@* thingamajig wouldn't take that...
