Worked near by on a project. Stayed in Mt. Carmel. Been through it many times. Underground coal mine fire, been going for years.

There's a whole album of covers of "Stairway to Heaven." It was a project of an Australian TV show called The Money or the Gun. As well as the Rolf Harris version, there are interpretations by The Beatnix (à la Beatles '65), Neil Pepper (the young Elvis), The Australian Doors Show, and Vegimite Reggae. There's even a version by Barry Crocker and the Doug Anthony Allstars. Those names won't be familiar to most of you, but they are, or were, stalwarts of the Australian performing-arts scene.

Richie, have you seen the "Going to Candy Mountain with Charlie" Flash movie? Sorry, no time to look up a link. It enjoyed a considerable vogue here a couple months back.

spent time with a friend from work. How strange that sounds, a friend from work! She has a granddaughter that was diagnosed AS ADD ADHD you name it , that lives with her as a daughter she is raising. I was trying to let her know what 'mind blind' meant, or at least what it ment to me. I was telling her how people see things differently and referred to the color blindness tests where the different numbers pop out of the aggrigation of colored dots arranged by colors.

She looked at the circles of dots and laughed and said "well you would have to be blind to not see the numbers!" so I asked her to read the bottom to see if she saw everthing and she did see where other people might see different things. She asked me 'ok, here at the bottom one, what number do you see?"

and I said an 8.

she was confused and then said 'you are being silly. . it's a five or a two" and I shrugged and said, see? People think differently. I jus got through to her, she had never thought about the idea that other people see things differently. I was a good night. I got the granddaughter an account here on WP. She really liked the kids crater.

Merle, that got me thinking...

I'd been thinking why bother come here any more, so many closed minds, despite most being open minds, and of course nothing in the middle, where I don't belong anyway. Then I remembered this thread and popped in. I'm glad I did, because your posting explained it all to me.

Aspies can be overly-sensitive to stuff or overly-insensitive to it. Which means that many other aspies can't see what I see and can't feel what I feel (I have strong synesthesia and psychic ability). It just never occurs to them that others can perceive things differently. Just like your lady with the numbers. Just like me, they can get very bothered about what they perceive as not right, including what I know to be part of my very real reality. I have long ago given up trying to get others to see my point of view. I just describe what I experience in return for their experience, and together, we paint a composite picture so vibrant, so full, it is the closest to a complete reality.

I don't do the blind belief thing. I never believe anything I haven't experienced. And if what others describe seems really weird, I find a way to find out if it's for real, a way to experience it, a way to test it for myself somehow. I'm a scientist after all, although not by any means a conventional one. It pains me when someone does the blind belief thing on me, attacking my integrity and everything I stand for (including my aspie obsession - the only reason why I live) because of their blind beliefs.

Don't get me wrong. Most of the time I'm happy. More to the point, most of the time, I'm ecstatic. It just pains me when I'm dismissed or rejected by one of our own.

I like this. One voice may sing beautifully on its own, but the more voices can sing, the greater the truth of the song. There may be sour notes in it, and anharmonics, but the song is incomplete without them.

I like to remember that none of us sits down at the piano, or enters a concert hall, and plays a concerto without practice. I like to remember that on the way to playing in harmony, we all hit off key sometimes. If we didn't, we would never become musicians. Not even Mozart sat down and played perfectly the first time he tried. He practiced daily to get to the point that he did, a fact that many overlook when using it as an example of perfection. I like to think that in the very least we are sitting down at the keyboard and trying.

I see an 8 too Merle *wink* I think it's cos we see the 5 and the 2 simultaneously. Nice to know you and I think alike, anyway.

The first thing I thought is, I wanna build one! Then I thought about the fact that I have no where good to put it. Then a new idea...
