Just reread her note, I'm not encouraged. SwampBlossom actually lived there and knows the locals Nan was speaking of. I can't pin her house to one spot, but very close, very close, as in yards. It's hard to know, it has wiped a lot of homes but in the middle of the devastation they have some that still stand. One of her escape routes wasn't a good choice, but I think she would have chosen the one with more people, even though that's a tendency for the thing not to do with us. She had good reasons for doing that one. She's also desert, dry brush country smart, she'll do the right thing. Could be longer before we hear, it's still in process. I didn't expect a reply back last night or I would have stayed up. She was just finding it comforting to be online. I would have thrown her off before then though. Ain't worry great?

Oh yeah!! Worry is fabulous and so are ulcers! I wondered what she was doing on-line at that time. And it sounds like a 20 year old to be trying to figure out her socks in the midst of impending disaster. Nan is right that being Aspie comes in handy. She will do the right thing.

Yea Blessed Mom I know what you are talking about. We get sick of being 'weird' and misunderstood when we know there is so much untapped love and friendship within that we can't share. (Even though I'm NT I have been recently described as the weirdest person my friends know. Funny, yes, but lonely too.)

Perhaps soulmates - sisters and brothers - is more hollywood than real.

My poor dogs haven't had a walk for nearly a week. I've been unwell since my return from Vietnam. My staffy cross is round shouldered and depressed, so I better force one leg after the other.

I haven't chatted live on WP for some time. I spend all my time trying to catch up, and I'm reading backwards and forwards all the time. I think one eye is spinning separately from the other.

SO ... takes a breath .. longwinded ... it's been good to have some ethereal contact.

:) Yes, that is true! Weird is in the eyes of the beholder. My normal friends are as boring as all heck. There's not an original one in the crowd.

It was very nice talking to you in realtime. Isn't it amazing the amount of guilt one pair of doggy eyes can induce??

Edit: knocked the heck out of the last sentence

Yeah well it wasn't just the socks, seems she was still talking about the upcoming party on Friday. But even Nan was a bit mystified by it. Better that then going melt down full time. Nan was debating if she should head to the sea or get over the mountians to El Centro. She has the feel of how that stuff goes, she was already forcasting what the fire would do, where it would go and at what time if it did a split. What it would do if it hit the nature preserve. It's one of those you have to be there deals, maps just don't really cut it from here. She was going to do something within an hour or two from her last post and they already were stopping traffic on unsafe roads even before then. Ok, I shut up about it now, just worried.

I just snuck back past the doggy eyes to add more thoughts and you said it all. We think we are okay; it is others who think we are weird! It's really frustrating when what we say is seen as funny when we are really being serious.

Tony Attwood can cure all aspies - just put them in a room by themselves! But that does not address loneliness.

I saw some tv footage of the fires. Truly scary stuff. And you are right, PP. It's instinct, not maps that will find a way out.

We are fortunate I guess here in PA, we don't get mega-fires but we do get the occasional flood. Like Johnstown
and hurricane Agnes in 1972.

Holy! I got a little worried there. Our internet went down for 20 minutes! 8O

We have had steady winds gusting between 50 km and 100 km/hr for 3 days now. It is normal Fall and Winter weather for this area. Thankfully we don't have any bush or trees outside the city limits and we don't get fires in the city. If we did, we'd be like California is now but for 7 months of the year. Grass fires tend to be put out fairly easily. The only weather we have to worry about is in the summer when we get tornado weather and so far, they have only hit around the city in open wheat fields.

My home is truly an Aspie sanctuary! Tony Atwood would be proud. NT friends and relatives are very uncomfortable around us in our territory which is how we like it. I figure if we have to wear our masks out there like they do, they can come in and be weird with us! There are people talking to themselves and ignoring each other and saying whatever comes into their heads (as long as it isn't hurtful). We have conversations about 3 different perseverations going on at once and we are all happy! It is truly wonderful!!

Err never mind this. I'll figure it out else where. Had a vid up and then saw it linked to one that is not kiddie safe. Wanted a translation is all.

It's one of the reasons I liked (past tense, all done) my World of Warcraft partner. We could have 3 conversations going at once between the two of us and understand them all. She isn't too normal. I left the game, we're still in touch.

I discovered that you shouldn't talk to yourself when you're shopping in Walmart. You'll suddenly hear "Security to Section C!"  I was followed through 3 sections by the plain-clothes security guy and I made sure I stopped in all of them and picked up and looked at all kinds of things.

Here in York PA we have so many Recovery and "Halfway Houses" a person talking to himself in the store doesn't seem
so out of place.

So that's why I get followed around in stores! I have discovered that people get really nervous when I am talking to myself. They show this by trying to interrupt me - some type of reality check for them, I guess. I was walking home from the store, and muttering to myself about something or other, and this woman gave me an uncertain look. I stopped talking and glanced at her. Keep in mind, that people are just passing objects in the scenery until they speak. So, she somewhat nervously called out, "Hi, how are you?" I smiled and nodded, said, "Fine," and walked on. I guess she thought that if I answered her, I must be "OK." And if I didn't?
