Ha!

Woke up last night at 2:00am - noticed a lot of noise going on. Figured it must be the heating unit I "repaired". Went into the attic and shut it off. The noise continued. I went downstairs to find that the washing machine's hot water hose had burst. Shut that off. The noise continued. Wandered into the downstairs bathroom to discover that the toilet tank's water regulator top on the fill valve had broken and was spewing water as well. (Thank goodness I was home!) Have spent the rest of the morning removing water from the laundry room, hallway, kitchen, bathroom, living room, and downstairs bedroom. Have fans set up everywhere. Once the walls, carpet and floors dry out, looks like I'll be re-painting.

(water coming out of the electrical outlets is probably not a good thing, eh?  ).

Do not, repeat DO NOT flip on the electrical switch there, Chuckmeister.

oooooo oooooooo...... it's so quiet. I can hear the splashing, sizzling sounds from here.

(If there's water coming out the electric sockets, you've got bigger problems than just needing to paint.)

Poor Chuck! What a frustrating day! Did your house need a good clean?

At least once every 6 months I should probably hire a firetruck and crew to soak my house. It is much easier to decide to throw things away (that I should have already thrown away) when they are soaked and ruined.

Perhaps this should become my new pre-holiday tradition: put on a Bing Crosby album, and soak, scrub, rinse, dry and re-paint the inside of my house. At the conclusion of my festival, I shall drink a Christmas beer and settle down for a long winter's nap.

If my heater's not working (like now), I'll build an indoor luge track, and an ice-skating rink around the Christmas tree. And an indoor snowman waving out the window!

Bet you want one too, huh?

Ho, ho, ho!

hhmmmmm....that's not a bad idea! It'd have to be mulled wine and a fire pit in the center of the ice rink, though.
Did you lose anything you didn't want to throw out?

Have you given any thought to maybe moving? Sink holes, broken heaters, water works.... should we place bets on what'll be next?

So much catching up to do...

Chuck thanks for the MRSA(?)warning.I worked with a client who died from complications of this and wonder if I am a carrier. It makes me worried about working with other 'immune vulnerable people or animals'...could I be making them sick?I have very little contact with humans but some of those dogs practicly "make-out " with me.I had no idea that animals could get this or spread it..is it because they carry it on their fur when touched by humans?

Sorry to hear about your "flooding".It is such a pain to clean up after.I always worry about possible mold(since I usually live in basement apartments with tightly sealed windows.)Most of my flooding has been self-inflicted.I start the bath water and then get busy doing something...guess it is a good thing I dont live above anyone  .I also had pipes from the abve apartment break(twice in to weeks  ).It was in my sisters room and her ceiling half fell in,other half covered in mold.(She was in the psychward when it happened but came back and had to sleep in my room until they fixed it...several weeks later. The Apartment company did not compensate us in anyway for this and some idiot actually stood on her glass table to fix the ceiling...they gave us $20.00 to buy new glass.Arrggg.

Postie.I am worried about all the soldiers(if they ever let the come home.)The military already know that they do not have enough trained professionals to offer them PTSD and other counseling.Besides the trauma of the war...many are coming home to broken relationships and lost jobs(because of all their extended stays). It is so sad how our country can say..."support the troups"and then remain unaware or indifferent to their problems when they return. Can you get any couseling help in non-VA services? They also have a high turn-over rate, unfortunately, but maybe more stable then the VA system?I just saw on the news that 25% of our homeless are vets.

Nan,congratulations on "facing your fear and doing it anyway".Your a great role-modle.

I found out why they told me they didnt want to hire the guy.....turns out he is not an NT(Oh my,however shall I cope, lol).Their nick-name for him at the other store was "Lurch" because he walks that way, talks very little :D .Needless to say,I get along with him fine.I am so happy he isn't one of those "chatterboxs" that HR seem to prefer.I also relate to him because he learnes like me "by watching" not by listening.People were already picking on him and I "set them straight".They were complaining how slow he was and I reminded them it was his 2nd day(duh)How fast where they on their 2nd day?If he is anything like me..it will take him longer to learn but once it "clicks" he will find the most effecient way of doing things.

I'm not saying he is an aspie(maybe,he was ignored for a promotion and is teased and bullied by some co-workers)but he is not an NT and I feel comfortable with him.So far he seems to have a good work ethic, though I know they usually changes with in a few weeks for many people who are on their "best behavior" when starting a job...time will tell.

SO thank you for all your support. It's nice to report good news for a change.

On another note.I decided not to up my Effexor for now.I did buy some 100mg HTP and took it for the first time last night(maybe not a good idea to take it before sleeping?I didnt sleep to well, got a headache and saw flashy lights hen I closed my eyes.

Has anyone taken this stuff before or mixed it with an anti-depressent?

HTP is an amino acid that is thought to act on the serotonin in the brain acting as an anti-depressant. It is not a good idea to take it with an anti-depressant medication such as Effexor that also affects the serotonin levels. There is the possibility of a build-up of excess serotonin which itself causes depression, anxiety, sleeplessness and mania.

5-Hydroxytrytophan..(derived from griffonia seeds)....It is considered a dietary suppliment,ie "herb" that is supposed to convert to serotonin.

It is sad, isn't it.

I do have to say something about this article, though. I paid more than 80% {yes, eighty} of my income for housing for many, many years, and more than 60% until just very recently. Housing is incredibly expensive here for everyone, including vets. Most of the available jobs are minimum wage or not a lot more, unless you have a technical or professional skill. When a one-bedroom apartment is over $1,000 plus bills and you earn $7 an hour... life is hard. Without a high-demand skill (which is lacking for many, many people, not just veterans), the risk of going homeless can be a paycheck or a rent-raise away. And gods forbid you get sick, or have a child who gets sick, or the place becomes uninhabitable and you don't have the deposit for another place, or you get laid off from your job.... There are forty thousand names on the waiting list for "Section 8" (government subsidized) housing in San Diego. Which is pointless, anyway, as almost no landlord will take it - they can make way more money on the open market.

That being said, one would hope that someone, some nonprofit, could be set up to temporarily shelter people who have no family to go to when they get out of the service. If for no other length of time than to get them some kind of training that would allow them to be self-supporting. And for those who have, or who develop, mental or physical health issues... what to do? Once upon a time there were retirement homes for soldiers, around the turn of the 1900s, for the injured. Why are they gone now? Down the same road they've gone for anyone with those issues. Just gone....

True...but isn't that also true of increasing an anti-depressant?The trick is finding the right balance, reguardless of if it is medication that increases the seritonin or "re-uptake" that just prevents the seritonin from being "lost".In depression, the problem could be not making enough seritonin, losing the seritonin in the bodies natural "recycle program",or the brain not accessing the seritonin effectivley, even if there is enough. The different antidepresants work for one individual and not another because each of us have different process going on.I'm not sure what I have going on but I still fell "broken" so I thought I needed to do some "tweeking" and see if the cause was actuall not "creating enough" rather then recycling to much...might be both thiings going on.

My theory about not creating enough is based on my limited understanding of AS and "gut problems".There seems to be a link between these two things.(Lots of people with AS appear to have leaky gut,IBS,Chrones, etc).Something like 80%? of the seritonin a person makes is made in the gut...so perhaps there is a connection?Maybe not great "science" but seemed wrth investigating.I dont figure I can get much "crizier" then I have been feeling lately.I did ask my boyfirend to monitor me for "weird behavior",particularly "mania".(Though I sure could get some cleaning done with a small "bit 'O mania".<---good name for a candy bar?

Yes, that is true about raising the anti-depressant. Just be careful is all. I'd hate to see anything bad happen to you.

I have Crohn's and I believe the whole serotonin gut issue. I have found that every attack I have is preceded by an anxious depression. It never fails. Of course it could also be argued that the depression/anxiety precipitates the Crohn's attack, but I don't think so. The malabsorption problems begin before the attack is noticable. I'm glad someone else has also wondered about that.
