There are so many things that disturb me about this little girls home (from what you've written)that I don't even know where to start describing how I felt reading that. And I don't even know them. :( :x

I would not even darken their doorstep if it were not for that little 8 year old with AS living with them. Grandma will sit with me and rag on and on and how 'she can only talk to me because " I know how difficult it is" to raise the girl. I have tried to explain to her that I DON'T know because I was not my mother, I was THE CHILD, but my NT skills are too good, and she thinks I 'couldn't be' like 'them,' or some how I grew out of it, or something. Dang, I could be so helpful, but there are so many things she just 'doesn't get.'

sigh I am packing up all my accoutremonts (floggers, corsets, boots, strap on harnesses, etc.) from my professional Dominatrix days and mailing them off to a friend still active in the 'scene' in Minneapolis. She is going to sell them at a "Bizarre Bazaar" consignment sale they have every year before the holidays. I have been saddle soaping and mink oiling down leather and snipping loose threads and packing them all away in gold and green foil tissue so it will be a riot of 'gifty-ness' when they get it, as presentation is half of it.
I hope to put a decent down payment on a good vehicle with the proceeds.

or move.

On the first bit, we know.

On the second part, just do what you can, because you can.

Finally, I can't wait to hear what you name the car, given the source of it's funding.

Yeah, I did get that. I had to go take a walk, having pictured the little thing in that trap, in my mind. Can't even eat my damned breakfast.

I probably should talk to a professional about that, as I do have to live in this world with people like that and I could very well starve to death if I pay attention. :(

oh, crap, I forgot my audience! Nannarob always tells me to 'write for your readers, dear" and I have been away from this thread too long to realize I am actually writing for MYSELF here. I dont have to convince you guys of a damned thing, as you said, Nan, 'we know'.

I am so sorry about your breakfast, Nannie, dear. The mousie was swiftly sent to that big cat rodeo in the sky, so don't you fret!

She kept saying last night, as we went to dinner and she was wolfing down her excreable dinner I could barely touch ( who puts a slice of soggy SOY BACON in a tuna fish sandwich?) "you aren't eating". . .and "I am just afraid you will be hungry later" as I said to her face "if I am hungry later, I will eat" and she just kept yammering on about how I should eat when it is infront of me . . . totally clueless I am older than she is and have been taking care of myself for quite a while, now.

i dislike people like that, people who say when it's appropriate to eat or not. i'll eat when i'm hungry, not when the clock hits six (or whatever) just because it's hit six.

totally different, i just stumbled across this

http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/medica ... itory.html

and it is SO me.

except, they say that parents should try to maintain eye contact with the kid. big no-no there.

hmmm. it does explain a lot.

Don't you just love it when someone younger who might be better off financially thinks he or she is better than you because of that?[/sarcasm]

As for mousie.... mice have their place outside in nature, not in our homes. Whenever I have one in my place I dispatch it
quickly and humanely.

Hi nannarob - I like to go to Noosa for holidays. No - I didn't write the Newspaper article - although I did read it - it was a good article.

Hiya Gromit. :)

My father has a restaurant. Every fall the mice manage to find their way in somehow. My father loves building contraptions and he loves animals, so he built metal traps with airholes and a trap door that the mice can enter but not leave. He baits it with Old Henry chocolate bars. Apparently it is the mouse favorite  . He checks his traps every day, even on days the place is closed. If there is a mouse, he drives it out into the country and lets it go. I have to laugh because he was raised on a farm where killing animals is just a fact of life. I can't imagine how awful it must have been for him to have been raised by a hunter/trapper who used those big ugly foot traps.

"couldn't you just catch it and put it back outside?"

Most traps and other methods of catching a mouse are either injurious or lethal to the mouse....
as for putting him outside, it will simply come back inside again or invade someone else's home
where it will either be destroyed or breed.

you could use a live trap and then you could put him outside.
and when he comes in again you could catch him again and put him back outside.
or maybe you can put him away from your house, somewhere in a park or the woods or something.

and maybe the someone else could use a live trap, too.

Are we forgetting about the preferred work of most cats?? If there's a cat in the house, mice generally stay away.

In the heyday of my youth I toiled endlessly and with out much remuneration on a farm that strove to be totally devoid of any inhumanity to animals or any living creature. We would tirelessly go after the slug and snail population by putting them in large 5 gallon white buckets, which we would, theoretically, take up to the mountain side and let them go (i.e. pour them out of the buckets onto the forest floor) far from our farm.

I won't bore you with the spiritual reasons we did all of this, just suffice to say we did it for the universe and because we couldn't bear it to do it any other way.

After a while the novelty of exercising the strength of our convictions by slogging through muddy gardens in the dead of night with a flashlight best held in the mouth plucking off slugs and snails wained, the buckets so cheerfully taken up to the mountain side was beginning to eat into our gas allotment and so they went less and less often. For people that didn't want to harm the least of life forms we went to mass slaughter of those we rounded up ourselves for the certain holocaust of those entities as the white plastic buckets heated up in the ozone depleted atmosphere. Soon we were taking buckets up the hill hoping they could at least fertilize the ground.

We were never again so idealistic and developed other stratagies for dealing with slugs and snails.

I admire anyone that wishes to impose their intended good onto the world. I try to avoid being part of it, though.

I'm sure we all heard by now that the road to hell was paved with good intentions.
As for mice, we had an alley cat around here at one time.... just the scent of a cat is enough to keep mice away.
