Mackechnie said that next week, the Santa Ana that appears to be taking shape will have better “upper-air support.” That means the winds in the upper atmosphere should be strong and blowing in the same direction as the winds at the surface.
Humidity levels are expected to be very low next week, just as they were when the wildfires began Oct. 21. The one saving grace is that temperatures next week should be 10 to 20 degrees lower.
The winds are expected to hit Riverside and San Bernardino counties Tuesday, then peak in San Diego County the next day. “It will be a cold, dry and very windy Santa Ana,” Mackechnie said. “By Wednesday morning, it looks like it will be howling for sure.”

I so cannot deal with that again. Not again. But I don't guess I have a choice.
Better make sure the mechanic comes this weekend to replace the failing alternator belt, I guess. And pack the genealogy and photos back up. At least this time I already have batteries for the portable radio, won't have to buy any more.

Is it cosmic energy? We were just hit with an amber alert to have us on the lookout for an abducted child. Another one.

Every now and then I do understand why the neighbors drink so much. The kid's working late tonight, so I'm on standby to go get her. I'm not going to mention this and maybe she won't see it on the news.

Another one.Oh no! Hopefully it's just some kid in a snit and they come back home again. Are they sure it's an abduction? Oh, crap. The kid has less than about 3 hours then, if it goes as it statistically goes.
Says on the horriblescopemailer that keeps popping into my email inbox something about Mercury turning retrograde. Have NO idea what that means, but it sounds ominous.
Hope they find the kid, I really do.
Joanna's parents sent us a "rememberance" post card with a neat picture of her rappelling down a cliff and ending up hanging like upside-down on it, to mark the anniversary of their finding her remains. Came during the wildfire, so we just this week found it in the stack-o-mail. I hope whoever's Amber now doesn't end up like that.
Ok, drugs do have some appeal, really.

Oh, Nan, sorry to hear about the Santa Ana winds. That really sucks! Hope they're wrong about that.

It's an abduction . 6 year old boy that didn't come home from school but they said who he is with and gave a description of the vehicle. Maybe a bad custody deal. They gave the man's name and the last names don't match but that means nothing.
6 years ago the husband's step-niece was murdered by a friend of her mother's. Turned out this man was a pedophile. She was 5 years old and left to go to a friend's house 3 doors away. They found her a week later in a field. I turn cold whenever I hear that warning signal and the words, "This is an Amber alert".
And drugs do have certain appeal, you're right!

I actually first encountered that prayer in a work of fiction, back in my teens. They just made such an impression on me. Glad you liked it.

Yay! They found the little boy. He was abducted in broad daylight by a complete stranger at knife point. It wasn't random but it was a stranger to the child. There are freaks everywhere!

I took Kid#2 to the doc yesterday because he's been tired and sick looking for 3 weeks and said his throat hurt. Turned out he has Strep throat. The doc prescribed Amoxicillan. He took his 5th dose an hour ago. He is now covered with a lovely rash all over his body. I gave him an antihistamine. Now I have to sit and wait to see if it works or if I have to take him to the ER.

Holy s**t. I'm so relieved to hear the kid's alright.

His poor parents! Now they're going to have to make a serious effort to not smother the kid with supervision so that he can grow up more or less normally, but still have to deal with their own fears. Tough row for them to hoe, now.
At the rate things are going, with the sunspots or retrograding asteroids or whatever, I can't wait to try to cook the turkey for Thanksgiving. The kid has invited several friends over and wants it to be one of our old "traditional" dinners. I wonder if it will explode when I stuff it?
One of the nightmares I had last night was interesting. I dreamed I'd gotten a huge turkey, at least a 20 pounder, prepped and all ready for cooking, had the big oven heated up, put the roasting pan with the turkey on the rack, put an obscene amount of butter and spices on it, and slid it into the oven. Stood up, closed the oven door, wiped my hands on my apron (I don't own an apron!?!), and then turned around. Almost immediately the oven door slammed open, the turkey was standing up on its legs, with the remnants of the twine that had tied them together at where its feet should have been, and it was brandishing a meat cleaver, looking like a turkey Rambo. Damned thing chased me all over the house with me screaming like a little girl. Company wasn't due for hours so they wouldn't find the body until then.... The damned thing cornered me in the bathroom shower after hacking its way through the bathroom door ala Johnny in The Shining. I woke up just as it got ready to whack.
Maybe we should go out to eat, instead?
