Well, we're fairly spread out round the planet (that big round thing), so "after breakfast" is applicable to some of us, whatever time it is.

As to what we do... well... we wait for new people to venture into the Cafe, then we poke them with sticks until they break down and tell us a joke.

Poke 'em again, Lau. He's not talking.

Nan! Lau! I step away just long enough to have a shower and you're pickin' on the new guys? Again?  Where are the muffins? And the Spam sushi?? Heck, where's Postie when we need him?

I'd be nice to this one. He'll write you up in a limerick!

Oooo, I'm shaking in my tennie shoes, I am. A Limerick! However shall I live down the shame! I fain to swoon!! !!

Hey, Laurie. You think 4 hours is long enough for the turkey at 325F? The mob is due to arrive at around 5:30pm, and I've got a 20 pounder, unstuffed. I was going to start it for about 20 minutes at 450F to get a nice color on it, then slap some tinfoil over the top so it doesn't burn and drop it down to 325F and let it go for the remainder of the time. I did the mafia treatment on it last night since it wasn't totally thawed (put it under water in the sink with a brick on it to hold it under). It seems to be completely defrosted now. But I've never cooked one this large - it's like TurkeyZilla out there. Sound about right on the time and temp to you?

Dressing baked on the side, for safety's sake and because it grosses the kid out if I dig stuffing out of the bird - says it's like I'm doing a demented autopsy. {sigh - and I have such a visual mind, that I immediately see there what she's implying. } She's loads of fun to have around in the kitchen!

4 hours at 325F is good if it was completely defrosted inside. I usually set the oven to 350F just to be sure it's done in time. I love stuffing done in the turkey but the kid's right, it's not a nice visual. I have a hard time putting the stuffing in and taking it out.
:eew:

I see you survived the crowds this morning. Did you get your turntable?

Hello there! Just thought I'd finally wander in and see what it's like hanging out with people my own age :D

But you are all eating breakfast now and I'm not... I've just been waiting until later in the day to eat, usually.

So... after breakfast... what are you all going to do?

I just figured out that I am working tonight (looked on my 'new' PDA someone gave me), so I have at least one thing scheduled.

Well, hello back at ya'! ! I wondered when you were going to notice our creaking.

Does the PDA work for you? I was given one, too. Care to guess where my ADHD brain put it? If you know please tell me 'cause I haven't got a clue. :) Thankfully my boss will phone me on the day before I work to make sure I remember.

I roasted three drumsticks last night they came out pretty good.....
Now I have to see if the whole turkey breast is defrosted yet, I'll cook that tonight and I'll something to nibble on for the whole weekend. Roasting a whole bird is something only grandmas and the Ex prize-fighters who now run our homeless shelters and
rescue missions know how to do.

Yeah, I think I'll do that, and put it on a bit early just in case. It can be sitting for a while, Butterball turkeys are nice and juicy and don't dry out unless you really overcook them badly. Last year we did a free-range turkey, about 10 pounds, and it was delicious. But with all the kids coming, and how they eat, I figured I'd better have about two pounds of turkey per kid. Probably still will run out. The cats at the shelter get the leftover dark meat tomorrow.

No, I looked at the turntable setup, and decided I wanted to hear it first. It was one of those turntable cd/burner combo things. They seem to be in several stores at about that same price. Some of the reviews online about it were really good, some were really bad. I prefer to hear it myself, but none of the stores had one that was hooked up for a demo.

It was a freaking zoo - I only managed 10 minutes in each store before I had to get out of there. The kid was starting to look a little dazed, so we gave up after only a couple of hours. Target had lines that were literally a couple of hundred yards long. I'd wanted to get some earphones and a mic for using on the net and it would have taken me a couple of hours to get through the line. We went to a few places, were pretty disappointed in what was available. Need a good scanner with an auto feed function. Found the same one on sale for $50 at about every store we went into, but that's really pretty much what it was worth. Poor resolution, slow. Looked at some in Staples and Best Buy, but they didn't seem like much of a bargain off their regular price.

Did end up at Walmart at 8:00, and it was well stocked and surprisingly uncrowded. Got my headphones and mic, two 2 gig flash drives, and some other stuff for the computers and the house for under $40.

I think I shall wait and see how the season goes. They keep saying that it's going to be a bad selling season for the merchants, so I maybe able to pick up my goodies later for a better price.

Oh, get this one. Hooray me! A co-worker is moving and selling her washer and dryer. They're almost new. She's going to let me have them for $300 for the pair and will have her ex bring them over and haul them up the steps for us!! ! No More Laundromat!! ! Wheeeee!

Yeah, whap him one for me, too! It's bad enough the guys at the drive through keep calling me "sir" and then offering me the senior discount, but "grandma" is just way over the line!

Well, I walk along, minding my own business, when I stumble over a straight line, fall flat on my face, too! What was I supposed to do with it after that? I mean, it's like when you are in a haunted house, you just found your effigy nailed to the wall with a harpoon, and there's a rope leading away from it and through the door. What do you do but follow it? Anything else would break the law of narrative!
