It was the word Tripitaka that caught my attention. Tripitaka is the Sanskrit word for the Buddhist scriptures.

Again from Wikipedia:

Quote:
The Tripitaka writings of early schools of Buddhism, which were originally memorized and recited orally by disciples, fall into three general categories and are traditionally classified in three baskets (tri-piṭaka).

Wishing everyone in the Café peace and happiness this holiday season. Especially you, Mescalero.

Although it's not yet Christmas eve, I come wassailing! :D My sister and I embark for 'dad's land' - I'll write you all on my return.

Merry Christmas to all, may it find you in good spirits and good health! :D
__________________________________________________________________________________________________
Mescalero - I don't think you were out of line. I was concerned because I thought you were upset - I thought someone had been picking on you. That's why I provided the self-defense clips. I don't advocate violence (I agree with your non-militant stance - wish humans could live that way), but agree with the Toaist stance of 'seeing reality as it actually exists'. Everyone should know how to defend themselves. You don't have to put up with abuse of any sort. I hope that you are doing ok! As an Aspie, I think you will find that you have unusual strength. If you do decide to defend yourself, get martial arts training first, and develop your skills. I recommend it. There is no shortage of jerks in this world.
________________________________________________________________________________________________
Nan - Congratulations on your daughter's newfound skill level! :D An important milestone, and self-defense wasn't even required! My mom had me watch young cardinal chicks being thrown out of their nest by their mother. Most of them 'crashed and burned' - but lived. Their dad stayed with them an additional week teaching them skills, and then they were on their own. Mom told me that the goal of a parent is to teach kids skills so that they can stand on their own and leave the nest. Aspies may take longer to develop those skills, and your daughter may 'crash and burn' a few times when she goes, but you have done a wonderful job! (Now comes the part where you wince - holding back from rushing in - witness the 'crashing and burning', and stand by with antiseptic if she limps back. Good Luck!! ! ) ________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hartz - I hope that you are feeling better today! It's so frustrating when a drug causes more problems than the symptom it was given to treat. :)  I react badly to most drugs as well, so I rarely use them and use your approach - diet changes, healthy foods, drinking teas and water, and exercising. I think that works best as a general measure.
But you (and a lot of other people here) have problems that extend well past 'general measure health maintenance', so I hope that something can be found for you that will work without bad side effects.
________________________________________________________________________________________________
Lau - I hope you are preparing lots of exotic dishes in anticipation of Smelena's arrival in a few weeks or so. Or at least are draining your moat.

Merle - I know you are often alone on the holidays. Wish you a special Merry Christmas , you big-hearted sweetie! :santa: ! If my dad had a computer, I'd write you while I'm away. (Thought about that as a Christmas present for him, but he adamantly doesn't want one). I hope that your tooth pain has subsided, and your dry socket has healed, and you are getting better. Hope you and Macushla are full of Christmas cheer!

Lauri, I appoint you to keep Gromit in line while I'm away. Gromit - watch Sapphix. richie (congrats on your 11 days off!) - please watch Lau. Lemon - please help richie watch Lau. Nannarob - please watch Reika. Reika - please watch rathermousie, ...and Lau. Jon (DeaconBlues) - please keep Nannarob in check. Merle - please watch Nan. Nan, see if you can keep SleepyDragon in line. SleepyDragon - please watch Lemon, Lauri, Mescalero, duncansbass, Hartz, cosmiccat, Rjaye, Krex, Lupine, beentheredonethat, Pluto, AspieMartian, Myrkabah, Quatermass, wsmac, Inventor, ... and Postie. In fact, everybody please help each other keep Postie in line. ...erm, and Lau. ...erm, and Nannarob. Oh bother. I just know that I shall return to find the ex-cafe' rubble paved over and tidied up. 8O Quelle horror!! ! Everyone watch everyone else! 8O (If I left anyone out - I blame Christmas spirits! 8O)

A merry paranoid Christmas to all, and to all a 'never let your guard down' goodnight!

Do you think she wants to see what's in the moat? When Nor'Loch in Edinburgh was drained, they found the skeletons of many of the murder victims of the last few decades in there, the older skeletons having mouldered away completely. I am not saying Lau has skeletons in his moat, at least not human ones, but I keep wondering about the extinction of the dinosaurs.

[Grumble] She doesn't need prompting to do that. It's her hobby. It cheers her up on a rainy day. I innocently put my foot in my mouth, and I can tell the weather in Lauriland by whether the time before she pounces on me is best measured in minutes or milliseconds.

Ouch! Where did I put my foot now? [Waits in trepidation for impending doom]

BTW, thanks to all for the warm welcome to WP. This is the most human interaction I've had in a long time. I compose words (at least coherent ones : ) much slower than I can talk so writing is much easier way to communicate for me. I run a business from home (an aspies' dream!) that keeps me very busy but I'll definitely find time to drop in at the ex-Cafe.

Good to have you aboard, Otter. Yep, writing is my preferred mode of communicating also. BTW,
what kind of business do you run from your home?

Thanks Cosmicat,
Been enjoying the child-rearing adventures on the thread. Sadly, I missed my own childhood (memory does not go back farther than about 12) and that of my kids as well (my fault).

My business is probably a result of my own delayed childhood (and lack of toys : ). It's a really tiny niche market. I design and manufacture stuff to convert Mazda car engines (RX-7) for aircraft use. www.rotaryaviation.com

Hi, everyone! I am feeling a little better, today, Chuck. Head still tender, stomach just a little quirky. I swear, I feel like I went on an alcohol binge when I don't even drink! :) I tried one of my herbal preparations, and it seemed to bring the headache down in stages. Since this was a "liverish" headache, I avoided heavy food, eating only rice and steamed veggies when I could tolerate food. I hope everyone is having a lovely day! :sunny:

Sorry to hear about the migraine and the codeine problems, Hartz.

End of an era, blessedmom! On to bigger and better things! (Or maybe smaller and better things? :) )

:D Yes, quieter, better things. I've already designed the first item (a knitting needle case) I can make to sell at the store and will set up my sewing machine as soon as Christmas is over. My boss can't seem to find any decent ones so I'll make them for her to sell on consignment. Signed up for an evening quilting class, as well.

That sounds like fun, blessedmom! I used to sew quite a lot. Dolls. Doll quilts, etc. I even made a quilt for my baby, when she was born. Now I'm checking other crafting things.

Hi Hartzie! I was hoping you were around. I've had an NT insight!

I've dropped nearly all my spoons too. It always happens at Christmas though this year I set myself much lower standards. I have more spoons than you and no pain, but I think of you in my frustration of having to force myself to do anything.

Anyhoo, I realised I had to see a human - some flesh and blood human to socialise with and overcome the slight depression that lack of sppons brings. I will arrange same after Christmas.

And then I thought how it is to be aspie and the difficulty of socialising. Would it help you if some human dropped in on you for a visit? Daughter person. Neighbour that gives you rides to the shop?

Anyhow I hope you are over your migraine, and that things will pick up for you.

Hi, nannarob! Yes, the headache is ebbing away. It was the worst I've had in a long time, but was actually able to eat and drink today.

I have cool neighbors, though. Two nights ago, one of them dropped by to gift me with homemade Christmas cookies. I thought that this was really sweet of her, and told her so. She was leaving to spend Christmas with her family down in Miami, which is south of here. Another neighbor planted pretty poinsettias in my front garden box. My weekly social outlet got canceled this week, because the girl who organized it was feeling under the weather. And I didn't want to go and find nobody else there, or else perfect strangers. So I stayed home.

You all do deserve it, and I am jealous. I work Xmas eve, have the Day off, and am back at it the 26th.
