I seem to have de-zombified my downstairs heating unit! Luckily, it's only 18 degrees F (wind chill 9) (-8 degrees C) outside. Also, luckily, I have a fireplace, so I just stoked it up. That must have been some powerful hoo-doo we done-did. Hartz did it!
(Jon, since Zanne has a cat, I know what happened to her mouse...)
It is warmer here than it is there! The winds started to blow and it went from -10C to +3C in 2 hours.

Oh, I love a fireplace! I used to have one, when I lived in PA. Now I live in a shabby little house that is more built for hot weather than cold. Brrrr! I took Chuck's advice, and am sipping on hot chocolate, and wearing a scarf. My poor cat has cold paws.
Turn on the heat Hartz!
I hate this cold weather. I'm thinking about Belize since Chavez is mucking up my plans to go to Venezuela. The man will simply not cooperate. I just don't understand. I make him a character and this is how he repays me! Humph!

You seem to have a nice grasp of music. What do you play on the flute, blessedmom?
And I miss fireplaces. Thought I'd add that.
Rocked that cello, did you? Sorry, but that thought makes me laugh.
I don't play it as much as I used to before I had all these kids with sensitive ears. I play mostly classical and folk, used to play Pop and Top 40 when I was a teen and am currently attempting to find the time to learn the pieces in the Celtic songbook I bought last year. I need to have my flute refurbished but was told it'll cost $200.00 to re-do all the pads and re-coat the silver. And when the kids are all old enough I've been thinking it would be fun to join one of the local orchestras. There are different levels and I'd probably have to join Silver until I get back into it.
And that was far more info than you wanted to know I'm sure.
I got my 13 year old a very inexpensive starter-type electric guitar for Christmas. I have to look into lessons for him. My kids are all very musical, as well. One plays clarinet, one plays trumpet, the one with the guitar plays trombone and the little one wants to take violin lessons.

That was most emphatically NOT far more info than I wanted to know. All very cool info, blessedmom. I have a celtic songbook for my mandolin, but haven't got that far into playing it. Love Celtic music, as I have a strong Celtic background.
I love to hear of kids who actually want to play instruments.
Mostly blues and jazz. I don't play songs, just my own compositional ideas.
I applaud your desire to join a local orchestra. You ever get anything recorded, and I'd love to hear it.
And yeah, I rocked that cello.

Same to you, if you have anything recorded I'd love to hear it. Unique compositions are far more interesting than a piece that has been played by numerous people. It's a part of the musician that created it.

Parts of Western Canada are beautiful, and I suppose there are those who think Southern Alberta is beautiful. It is a flat, bald prairie. A semi-arid desert actually. I find the sky far too big for my liking. We have the cacti and tumbleweeds.
I grew up in the Okanagan Valley in B.C. and have missed the mountains since my parents moved us here. It is a 90 minute drive from here to the mountains and I go every chance I get. And when my boys are older and it is just me and my daughter I am hoping to move to the area that I love to visit.
I hear the desert is beautiful at night. Is that true?

I play all types of flute, including the Hopi flute and Pan Pipes.
My boys are 16 (with AS), 14 (NT and the king of teenage drama), and 13 (with AS). So, about 4 or 5 years, although I don't know if the youngest son will live on his own. I know that they would love to move to the mountains, as well, but their father lives nearby and all of their grandparents. I don't know that I could handle all of these kids alone. The boys have tried to convince me to move to Edmonton, where my brothers live, but that city is just far too big for me.
I visited Denver when my ex-sister-in-law went to live there. It was gorgeous and I didn't want to come home. Even the air smelled better than here.

It does no good to turn on the heat, Zanne! I have this big window unit for the whole place, which is one of those A/C/Heater combos. When I turn it on, it makes the room feel like a sauna for awhile, and then it eventually gets cold again. But my electric bill grows and grows...So I bought a small heater to warm the bathroom before I shower, and a floor unit (convection heater) which is pretty decent, as long as I sit near it and shut the bedroom doors. At night, I use my electric blanket. Usually I like it a little chilly, but not in the 20's! I think that this house is very poorly insulated, and mostly built to keep heat down. It has a tin roof, and is raised from the ground. Right now, the floors are like ice. Hopefully, this cold snap is over soon.

I'll have to start knitting you slippers, sweaters, afghans, mitts, a sweater for your kitty.....
Or I'll just show up on your doorstep, pack your things and bring you home with me. I have been known to do that.
I'll pick Merle up at the same time.
Heck, I already have a whole house of Aspies, anyone else want better healthcare and heat??
