One thing I love about my children is that even when they want lullabies, they don't care what I sing, as long as it's slow-paced. Iain's favorite is Barenaked Ladies' Tonight is the Night I Fell Asleep At the Wheel, although he's also partial to Type O Negative's Who Will Save the Sane? I tried to find videos on YouTube, but for the first, all they had was a live performance at a small nightclub, and the second was somebody trying to play the bass line himself. :( But what's not to love about singing a kid to sleep with:

Driving home to be with you,
The highway's dividing, the city's in view,
As usual, I'm almost on time,
You're the last thing that's on my mind,
Wish I could tell you the way that I feel
But tonight is the night I fell asleep at the wheel

No commotion, no screaming brakes,
Most of it's over before I'm awake,
From the ceiling, my coffee cup drips,
While out my window, the horizon does flips,
The worst part was hitting the ground,
Not the feeling so much as the sound,
Can't help but wonder if all this is real
'Cause tonight is the night I fell asleep at the wheel

Rubberneck traffic and passersby,
And Slow-Motion Walter, the fire engine guy,
Stand around with their mouths open wide,
Heard some idiot ask if someone's inside,
With the jaws of life they try and they try,
But nobody here can know how I feel
'Cause tonight is the night I fell asleep at the wheel

I guess it's all over now,
'Cause I've never seen so much, never seen so much, never seen so much, never seen so much,
I guess it's all over now
'Cause I've never seen so much, never seen so much, never seen so much blood....

In all the confusion, there's something serene,
I'm just a posthumous part of the scene,
Now I'm floating above, looking in,
As the radio blares and wheels spin,
I can see my face stuck in a grin
And you,
You're the last thing on my mind,
You're the last thing on my mind,
You're the last thing on my mind,
You're the last thing on my mind.....

Deacon,
My ex used to sing my oldest son to sleep with "Roxanne" by the Police. And now the kid is listening to speed metal. He's ruined.

Nothing beats a Type O Negative lullaby, Jon.
Except maybe you could add a little interpretive dance:

My apologies to Lau and Postie. Lau has been practicing a belly dance surprise for Smelena. And I stole this dream from Postie, who is undergoing SPAM-induced hallucinations/ sensory deprivation...

(My thanks to Hartz, AKA Sadie, who allowed me to film her as she danced in Postie's dream...)

I'll be just fine, I've told myself this and I'll make it so. The nice thing is, this is a used spaceship and the former users have left some items behind to keep my mind stable. I have a feeling this was used by the East Germans, as there is a pin up of someones sister that I'm pretty sure was a gymnast in the Olympics back in the cold war days. Anyway it does keep me reminded of what I'm missing on earth. I bet she can do a mean belly dance too.

I do think this spaceship is Russian made, I can't read the instructions, but that could still mean it was made in the USA. Don't need no stinkin structions anyway. I mean I can see earth just fine, it's like how the hell am I going to miss that big thing? I'm an experienced driver you know, hell I can hit a moth at 65 miles per hour on the highway. Speaking of which,, they told me I should be thinking green. Now thinking green is ok, but I'd rather do blue or yellow and I really like day-glow orange and chartreuse. Anyway, I'm not doing the really fast 1000's of miles per hour approach, I mean everybody knows the slower you go the more gas you save, so I'm coming in at about 45 mph, gotta do my bit to save the whales. I've been thinking about that moon rock and have come to the very logical conclusion it is the imprint of a falling star. So I must leave my message to Earth for now close my eyes to this soothing music and dream of Olga. Yeah I think I'd like to look her up when I get back.

Here's Mike, asking a woman if she knows where the volleyball area is:

...actually, that's not what finished him. Later, at the hospital, in the elevator, he tried to assist a woman who was carrying a heavy purse:

I'm telling you, Postie, just keep circling. Enjoy the tunes and light show. Things is rough down here.

So many... so many.... :D With my mother, it's a tossup between "Look it up in the dictionary!" and "I'll get the wooden spoon...."

Did those houses have turbines on the roofs to let the heat out?

Yes, I think it's fairly common all over Australia. People often fit one in the ceiling of their bathroom to draw the humidity out.

I grew up in Canada where everything was insulated, double-glazed and weather-stripped to within an inch of its life. But houses here in Oz are designed to maximise airflow: cool air in at the bottom, hot air out through the tile roof at the top. I can't see roofing tiles ever becoming popular in Florida; one medium-sized storm would undoubtedly strip 'em off like fish scales. 8O

Actually they are very popular here, but in a hurricane they become missles that take out everything in their path.

It used to be all about air flow here, including shotgun houses with halls all the way through the middle of the house, but not so much now. We made them "better!" LOL
