My mother was the type to just turn around, slap you one and say, "Are you happy now?" She never gave warnings, explanations or anything. God forbid you even sniffed or she'd shake her finger in your face and say, "Don't you cry either!" She was hardcore. We would have loved to "wait until your father gets home" but that was never an option. I only remember him going after my oldest brother, but I would step into that and tell him to leave him alone. My dad didn't like any of my brothers, but I couldn't do anything wrong as far as he was concerned. Spoiled I was. Spoiled through and through. There's another one! You're so spoiled you stink. They had the funniest expressions in the 1960's.

I so like this song. One of the ways I knew I really liked dh when I met him was because of his music collection. The other was his books.

I can only remember getting spanked twice - my folks had much more effective methods of getting our attention. Dad's bellow (which I seem to have inherited) was loud enough to hear down the street, and in our semirural neighborhood, that was one long street.

Mom would just give you a look that made you want to curl up and cry for what you did - even if you weren't sure what it was...

OTOH, that did make the spankings that much more significant. (One was for getting into a fight on a school bus - this was before I gave that sort of thing up - and the other was when they thought I'd set a fire next to the house. When that was proven not to be the case, Dad apologized.)

Stevie Ray, David and Spam???? There's something so not right about that. My mother made me stop going to my best friend's house as a child because her mother had Spam there. LOL She probably thought I was a heathen. I wanted to live on Space Food Sticks and didn't understand why I couldn't.

I also think our East German woman is Inga, not Olga, but I could be wrong.

Hey is that the same Mikey that got his start on tv? You know, the one that would eat anything. He grew up to be a Cereal Killer. But he never was caught, no, what did him in was Mikey died from eating Pop Rocks while drinking Coca-Cola. (It's an urban myth he's still alive) Oh and if you have any of those toys, played with any of those toys or were even ever near any of those toys, they recalled them 20 years ago. I hope you saved your receipt.

I used to stand for whatever I was told to. "Trained" to be an obedient dog by authority at an early age. Woke up to the fact that authority loved this arrangement - but it wasn't doing a heck of a lot for me. Now I'm a bad dog. Deaf. Incorrigible.

It still exists. Canned pig. They label it "pork" but it's really dead pig. Comes in a can the size of those big family-sized tomato juice cans. And when you cut one end off the can and turn it over the canned pig sloooooly schllooooops its way out to plurp down in whatever bowl or plate you have set below it. There was an ear in the last one I ever opened. I've never seen the kid vanish from the kitchen table, before or since, so fast.

I set the whole thing, plate and all, out in the alley where it sat glistening in its congealed gel stuff for several days. Even the feral dogs and cats wouldn't eat it.... I think the fire ants finally made off with it.

Umm'k, my bad, I tend to forget everybody doesn't click on the YouTube links. Hell I don't click on them all either. At the end of the commercial there was a thing about giving a rebate for Fisher Price toys and due to the toy recall in the news as of late, I jumper to the conclusion what kids played with in the past might not have been too safe either.

It's like everybody freaks out about things around us now, which is a good thing, but..... I hate to be the barer of bad news...folks there is most likely still fall out from the atom bomb tests from back when I was a kid. Parents would say to me, don't eat the snow flakes they're not good for you today. Now... this is a lesson in what not to tell a kid. But even if I hadn't eaten a few just to do it and see if I'd melt, we were playing in it and I don't think all of the fallout has run down stream yet. We know what low levels of radiation will do now, they didn't then. Is it with in safe levels? Dunno, not much to be done about it anyway. But then they said just don't eat it and all will be well, our little legacy to the world for the next thousands of years. Well it could be worse, nobody launched all of them...yet. Lead paint that might chip off..yeah ok, hell we lived in asbestos classrooms and all the paint was lead..kids today, we coddle them too much, I tell ya.
