hello everybody.. i am new here.
i really like the name of this site.. i have always said i was born on the wrong planet, and many of my friends agree with me..
i am 57 and only discovered Aspergers 3 years ago. i only resiscovered the word recently and i am only just now discovering how it has effected me in the past. my life has always been interesting, I have always prefered my perspective to those of the "Others"..
i have suffered a fair amount of frustration, confusion and irritability, which i have essentually kept to myself. I spend half my life trying to find something and the other half trying to figure out what it was i was looking for.... and the world quickly deteriates when you leave everything out so you can find it....
The best thing that ever happened to me was meeting Tenzin Thupwang, a Tibetan Lama who taught me to meditate. Meditation has calmed my mind, cooled the emotions and seperated the tendency to attach emotions to words, thoughts objects and for those emotions to be negative. It cultivates positive 'skillful means' for dealing with day to day frustrations. i simply idenify the frustration and let it go.. not that life is easy street, but i dont get swept away anymore, i see it coming, i dont end up realizing what happened during the regret and shame aspect of being foolish.. i can let go of it before it happens.
I really love the Computer.. chat forums are a stress free social process. i get really "Over Amped" around a lot of people.. I suffer aversion and a moderate panic state around a lot of people and noise.
just a note to the Spelling and Syntax Nazi's.... i do the best i can, i have an IQ of 164 but my literacy level is about 5th grade on the fly, but better when i have time to work it out, ..and there Is Medication for "Your" problem. I have 4 dictionarys and 2 Thesauri. but if get obcessive about it i will never get a post done at all.. this is known as a 'Chat'.. it isnt a Term Paper and you cant grade it. learn to 'let it go'... with the flow. ![]()
Welcome to the club!
I've had ADD since I was a kid and suspect I may have AS as well. And I'm not a Syntax Nazi, just perfectionistic when it comes to my own writing,
I'm glad you've had such success in meditating. I still have yet to learn to let my thoughts go--I keep telling them, "Shut up! Can't you see I'm trying to meditate!" And they usually respond with a raspberry or snidely say, "There is no try. Do or do not." I have been learning to let things go lately during my non-meditative life--just accept the feeling, don't hold on to it or suppress it, that just gives it more energy.
I love this quote from Krishna Das because it says so much about the process:
"Sometimes when you're in your funk, you're just in it. You can't do anything about it, so you just have to sit in it until it passes. It's important to do sadhana when you're not challenged by big emotional stuff so the effects of your efforts will be washing over you in those more difficult times, making them easier to bear. Keep in mind that the real changes happen off the radar screen...you can only appreciate them when you look back at your life and notice if you are spending less time in 'heavier states of mind.'"
You're in the right place--keep coming back! ![]()
