Hi everyone!! After years of thinking my son had ADHD or something of that nature, he was recently (a week ago) diagnosed with Aspergers Sydrome.

Mixed in with the relief I feel about finally having a diagnosis is a bit of fear as well as the need for information. The more I read, the more I find myself recognizing my son in all of his stages and moods. I have primarily registered here to read everything I can because I need to know EVERYTHING. I thought I would thank you all in advance for the help you may give me by sharing. One day I hope to be one of you.

So.. thanks!

Welcome Venraya!

I'm glad to see you're reaching out and finding support. All the psychiatric professionalese thrown around can be quite overwhelming--especially if it's all new! Luckily, there is a lively public dialogue about autism spectrum disorders now that wasn't there before. It was just starting as recently as 20 some years ago.

If one resource doesn't work for you, there are other places to try and different people to talk to.

So, welcome again and hope you'll find your home here.

:D

Welcome - Hopefully by reading widely on these boards you'll get some idea about your son's diagnosis. One thing I can tell you is that no two individuals are completely alike, and that applies to Aspies as well....

So tell us; is he above average IQ? Is he an easy going guy who has no desire to exploit others? Does he have a mother who accepts him as he is, without feeling any need to appear on an AS site without using her own name?

Welcome to WP! I also have a 10 year old aspie son, as well as being an aspie myself. You're probably already aware of this, but ADHD and AS can be co-morbid. In our case, my son has both, as well as Tourettes. It keeps thinkgs interesting around here
