Hi everyone!
I am new to these boards , i'm from Canada and i am not sure i have AS but reading on the topic and reading these forums i am seriously thinking i have it. Here is a little list of why i think i would have it and why i think i wouldn't have it. Let me know what you think. Thanks

Reasons why I would think I have AS:
-I am writing on these forums (also reading some of the stuff on this forum I can relate a lot)
-always been very good at school even if I don’t try (got in the top 10% of my program in university and I don’t do homework or study much)
- I will do repetitive things like always walk the same path to university or always sit on the driver’s side of a car (not the end of the world if I don’t but still would rather do the same thing as always)
-I have always been a little “different” I don’t go off my path to fit into the social norms (and never will)
-I am extremely creative and love trying to find crazy solutions to invented problems
-I have a room with my computer and tv/xbox and it bothers me if others use it (unless I’m using it with them like with friends)
-I eat the same things a lot
-when playing strategy board games i always try to figure out what the best next move would be (i win like 80% of the time even at 4 player games)
-sometimes after spending a few days with friends / people i feel drained and need to just spend some time alone
-since start university 2 years ago I have not really made new friends except became friends with people from my high school which I didn’t really talk to in HS
-never had girlfriend and barely manage to talk to girls
-girls have approached me before but I only realised afterwards (except one time when a girl sat down beside me in class and started kicking my foot for a good five minutes and I just pretended to take notes the whole time, no better way of looking like a jerk)
-I’ve had 2 jobs both lasted under 2 weeks I quit both mostly because I felt it was a waste of time and i have a hard time working for someone else (self employed right now )
-usually barely talk when in large groups unless i know everyone very well
-I avoid eye contact always
-I’ve been told i have a monotone voice
-I get intensely focused when I’m doing something interesting to me.
-I have a high tolerance to pain (dislocated my shoulder at rock climbing , and just popped it back it and kept going)
-I am so clumsy (I hit my knees and elbows against things at least once a day)
-when I get a new hobby i go and learn everything about it
-I have bad hand writing
-I have “excellent auditory and visual perception”

Reasons why I wouldn’t have AS
-I told some friends I thought I had AS and their immediate answer was to say it was impossible
-I am a huge sports fan , follow hockey like a religion (watch all my favourite’s teams games , pregame shows , post game shows, listen to sports radio ect..) (Doesn’t seem to be a lot of sport fans on these boards)
-I am not interested in all the “Intellectual” stuff like reading books about philosophy or understanding modern art (I wish people would buy paintings of lines from me for 500 000$)
-I love to watch action movies like Rambo (it’s nice every once in a while to turn your brain off and watch Rambo destroy armies with his bare hands)

Hey theDuck... welcome to the community. :)

Some of your reasons for not being aspie could be reasons for being aspie... just so you know.

I know all about a certain British soccer team (won't bore you with it) and my aspie ex is a huge fan of cricket, and could tell you everything imaginable about the sport. (Assuming you'd stay awake of course.) When I was at uni I was into various sports (rowing and rugby. How sad am I that the whole time, I was thinking "this isn't really rugby, it's the wrong code...." You'd have to British, and possibly aspie to know what I'm on about.)

The point is, you don't have to be good at playing sport to appreciate it... and those of us who do appreciate it don't forgo outr aspie qualifications.

So...

I'm not a psychiatrist, but I'm happy to claim you as an aspie brother. :P

Welcome to WP.

Your analysis of your possible AS is itself Aspie-ish. Can you get an evaluation to see if you have AS? Would it matter to you if you did (or didn't)?

Separately, the idea that Aspies are all intellectual and geeky is a bit of a myth. Just browse the sections on entertainment or sports, and you'll find plenty who aren't.

TheDuck, i'm avoiding the term asperger syndrome, so i'm just gonna say that you don't have the thing that Temple Grandin, Bill Gates, Albert Einstein, Dan Aykroyd, Gary Numan, Nikola Tesla, John Carmack, David Byrne, Heather Kuzmich, Craig Nicholls, and from this boards Alex, Hale_Bopp, Bizarre/Thyme, elan_i, Orwell, Chimchar, Tinky, Dilbert, Starbuline and 2006 me have in common. Now how did you manage to put together such a convincing list of symptoms is what worries me... because that has a lot to do with why so much missdiagnosis happened.

I think i will try to get an evaluation . I guess it doesn't really change anything but now i am definitely curious. Also i think it could do more good than just satisfy my curiosity for many reasons (especially related to social situations) . As long as if i am diagnosed with it i don't start using it as a excuse for everything nothing bad could really come out of a diagnosis. But its not the end of the world if i can't get one.

Well i wouldn't want to be like any of them really. Much rather have a simple life with lots of sleep. But its a good thing that you wrote that because i went to read on about how the term Asperger sydnrome has become overused and .... So i questioned being Aspie and thought more about it and after that i believe even more i have it. Thinking more made me realize that my mom had an Autistic Sister that i had forgotten about (i never really hear much about her because she passed away at a young age) Also realized that when family and old teachers talk about my childhood it really sounds like the symptoms of AS that children show. Why wouldn't they have tested me ? Maybe i don't have it , maybe theres no use to put a label on someone if they are functioning enough , maybe they just didn't think i had it . I guess only a real diagnosis could tell.

It could be that they were afraid of having you labeled as "disabled". I did not go that route with my son, I want him to have the help he needs. However, my biological mother did refuse to have me tested for ADHD because she claimed it would make me unable to get a job. As a result I did not find out until I was an adult. Now that I know I just self medicate with caffeine and because we know my son has Asperger's we are not stuck thinking that he just "misbehaves" all the time.
