Hi,

New here and to all the knowledge about being an aspie. I was informally diagnosed by my Orthopedic doctor (his wife and son are Aspies) on Thur and so far everything I've read including quizes are dead on to validating this. Happy/relieved at first to find out and no longer feel 'crazy' for my eccentricities, but now I'm getting flooded with mixed feelings as not all of my friends are supportive. One laughed at me outright like I'd just fallen for the biggest joke out there and started making fun of me, another put it far nicer that she had her doubts, and others have suddenly gotten uncomfortable on the phone and ended the call quickly. I'm feeling a little more than squished at the moment.

Autism Spectrum Quotient test: 32

Aspie Quiz:
Your Aspie score: 166 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 62 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

I want to get formally diagnosed but the only cost on one in LA, CA I've found so far is so outrageous I have no chance to do it.

I was officially Diagnosed last year @ the age of 49 and have gotten similar reactions from many. It's as if they think you're making it up as an excuse for something. F**k 'em. I should have been told years ago - it not only explains so much of the past, it's given me some hope for a lifeline for the future. I could never figure out why, though I was excellent in my career, I could never get ahead or forge any kind of stability in my life, while my much younger sibling lived the classic middle-class Yuppie life.

As far as the cost, my economic situation is such that I went to a not-for-profit and my case is subsidized.

Hi ArtKitten, welcome to WP.
After I was diagnosed I told someone who I had known since I was 6 about it and she laughed as well. She didn't laugh at me to make fun of me, but because she thought that it wasn't possible that such a syndrome existed. I think that if your friends are your real friends, they will accept you regardless of what diagnosis you have.

Hi, welcome here. I hope you find the support you need here. At least you can come here even without a formal diagnosis.
