Hi. I was diagnosed with Asperger's early in my teens but didn't personally acknowledge it until I had graduated from college. From 4th grade til college, I had constantly felt out of place. After seeing X-Men, I would often wish that I had a mutation like in the movies or comics that would show me the reason for being so different. I regret it now that I know that the Asperger's spectrum is a mutation of some kind. I just can't see how to benefit from what makes me very different. So I've joined the forum to try to find the positive side of having Asperger's.

Welcome to the forums. BTW one thing you will notice is all the other cool and interesting people who post here. It kind of reminds me of Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, at the end of the book when they all go to the escape colony and recite books from memory.

You have stumbled upon a lost continent. Sit back and relax!

hey KJC,
finding the positive side of life only depends on you. being aspie or not. loneliness for example. the feeling is the same for all, it matches the word, but you can enjoy your own loneliness and use it in a positive way, or you can decide to be depressed with it. in my case i love the feeling and i use it to create. as a friend of mine use to say, my best creations came up when i was lonely. so this is positive for me. also i don't feel the need of being that social. (sometimes just for work issues, so i give it a try).
we only have a different way of being, of thinking. and even if "normal" people doesn't understand us usually, it's a life's challenge to make ourselves understandable by others. and positiveness brings us more patience fighting the terrible anxiety. make yourself busy doing thinks you like, fulfil yourself and focus on that. it will also help to build our lack of self- esteem. welcome to WP :)
