c3po here, 40 something married woman in Southern USA, not formally diagnosed with AS but feel very comfortable here after reading some of the posts. I have also taken a diagnostic test I found on the OASIS website, scored 39 with a score of at least 32 being a good indicator or AS (according to the test, of course.)

My main issue now is work related - I was recently downsized out of a mid-level clerical job after many years and I do have the option to go back to school to change career but am feeling a bit overwhelmed. Can any of you recommend jobs that are good for people with AS? My options for school are for 2 or 4 year program, nothing longer than that.
Thanks and hope to hear more later.

Hi c3po and welcome to the forum! I hope you like to stay and talk with us :-)
Its great you got the option to go back to school. There was a discussion here lately around "best jobs for people with AS" or similuar
I hope you soon find what you looking for!

Thanks for the warm welcome, peeps!

Around here, in a town of about 40,000 with not much of an industry base, we seem to have about 1/4 of the adult population trying to get into our local college nursing program.
I am repeatedly advised to go that route and qualify based on my previous college work, but am having serious doubts about going that route myself. I saw some posts here from a young lady considering social work, am am leaning that way even though it would take longer. If you put me in a group or situation that has a clear purpose, I can communicate well, but not well just in everyday exchanges. I feel like I have a brain that works well, but not quickly enough for the situations a nurse may encounter.

If anyone here can offer insight or experience from an AS working in a medical field please do so, or if this needs to be moved to the work related forum, please advise.

Hello c3po,

Welcome to WrongPlanet!
I am also AS but don't really have experience in working in a medical field like nursing or social work, though my work experience is a little medical-related, since I am a psychologist, I am doing scientific research. I wish you good luck deciding which way to go for your future!
