All About Aspies.
: Hi you guys: my name is Scott and i have Aspergers.
Just wanted to know if other Aspies have these particular and peculiar syndromes.
I have always felt like an alien (since childhood) observing but not really fitting in or being a part of.
Statistics fascinate me: numbers, dates, facts, trivia, lists, paradoxes, etc.
Intimacy is very difficult because i don't relate to "regular" folk
there is a subtle attraction to metaphysical studies and things occult.
Am going with Jesus but there is defiance and more than likely, some ACOA issues are a factor.
Anyway, PLEASE add your idiosynchrasies so i don't feel unique in this world!!
cheeers,
scott

I was raised Christian by what you might call "dry alcoholics". I remember crying to my parents telling them that I just felt different from other people, and my dad's response was: "Well, you are different; you're a Christian." This is not what I wanted to hear at thirteen, so I resisted their guidance of what it meant to be a Christian and tried to go my own way. I studied astrology, read about Buddhism and tried to reject Christ. After getting beat up by life, I found my way back to him, while smoking meth, believe it or not. I don't advocate drug use, but my point is that God accepts us no matter what. The west has gotten it all wrong with regards to Christianity, IMO, and have set a terrible example for non-Christians.... Well, I'm getting a little preachy and since this is your first post, perhaps it's time for me to shut up.

I don't mind being christian but I greatly despise the Christians around where I live. I've gotten burned so badly by them and am basically rejecting the idea of church since I can't stand the people that are apart of it. I don't reject Christ necessarily, but the people in his church suck to bits. It might be the whole slightly-mega church, I don't know. And alot of them are just careless about certain things. Certain parts of your car don't work? Eh, it's ok because the car still moves! Oil change? No need. Or, they won't take blame when things go wrong, what sort of example is that?
EDIT!

Greetings to you, Scott, and welcome to WP!
I was born feeling like I must have been adopted or something.
If something interests me, I cannot get enough of it.
Intimacy is difficult because of my AS/HFA.
I was born wanting to know more about "God".
To where?
Ah.
What are idiosynchrasies?

==================================
Just wanted to know if other Aspies have these particular and peculiar syndromes.
I have always felt like an alien (since childhood) observing but not really fitting in or a part of.
I always felt that way to some extent, but it wasn't until my late teens that I began to realize just how unlike others my thinking and perception of the world were.
I generally don't have any consciousness of this on my part, but I can be a bottomless well of really diverse trivia in conversation. "How do you know all that???" is a question I hear a lot. I usually answer that one by giving the etymology of the word "trivia", which tends to get a laugh in response.
I outgrew that one eventually. It took a lot of time and effort though.
When I was in my mid-teens, yeah.
I'm not sure what that sentence means, but my interaction with faith was definitely atypical. I was raised Catholic and sent to Catholic schools, and it was until well into high school that I began to understand my experience of religion was nothing remotely like that of my classmates. I was surprised at the time how tolerant the nuns in my highschool were of my habit of spouting heretical notions left and right, but I later realized that these were women of extremely sophisticated education who were more intrigued than bothered by a kid coming up with Gnostic notions and Christian mysticism out of nowhere.
In short, you sound perfectly normal to me.
Hi Scott, welcome, and enjoy your stay on the Wrong Planet!

Hi again you all!
Well, i must say that it has been great reading all your very real responses!
Yes, i too have problems with the church in that i cannot abide snotty Christians nor hypocrisy which can run amok and wreak havoc in my mind: i am a stickler for justice. And i am just too darn sensitive, i reckon.
Thank you to whomever said i sounded perfectly normal: thing is i am likened to an ancient version of Opie Taylor: i turn 50 5th December and have the soul of a fourteen year old...[hey, maybe that's a pretty good Dorian Gray deal...lol]
Anyway, i am in the process of writing a book for myself and fellow Aspies: we are largely misunderstood by ourselves. therefore how can we expect the majority of this sweet cesspool understand our GIFTS, hmmm?
A chameleon who wore many masks and ended up moving through life like a sociopathic monk in searching for God, the Truth and himself.
Must begin seeking female Aspies to date! [it's only buddies with Asperger's i've encountered - just realized that!]
I wonder if Asperger marriages are successful? [meaning each has Asperger's Syndrome]
I literally wandered all over 40 states and worked 60 jobs according to social security. I did NOT resort to drugs or crime [with my imagination, THE WIZARD OF OZ was enough to deal with - lol] Unfortunately television [old movies in particular] mesmorized me and they were much more fun to live in than that horribly drab life i knew as an adolescent - egads!...therefore i was a rather affected and imaginitive young man who was walking on very thin ice!
I often wonder about reincarnation and just why certain people zoom thru life untarnished while still others go through Hades just for a drink of water in a marked fountain, for instance.
I am very versatile, very adventuresome and very young-at-heart: "thinking old" never appealed to me and i did not have the luxury/ablility to succumb to drug - drink addictions: i was all i had and an inner will prevented such behavior.
however, that intimacy thing had better get better! I think part of it is because my parents drank like fiends, moves in my adolescence and having no religion [the House of Bourbon DeLuxe!] in the family contributed to this: my folks were likened to Fred and Ethel Mertz boozing it up and verbally thrashing each other.
My book is going to be humorous, insightful, ingenious [we ARE that!] and perhaps ground-breaking: adult Aspies need to be aware that we are semi - isolated because we are wired differently in the brain and are kinda considered, well - weird by others: but it's okay: God made us His special kids!
blessings,
scott
