my name is jez and i don't know if i have any kind of disorder/syndrome. i've joined this community to learn more about it, since i've been told i show characteristics of asperger's. i get some degree of social anxiety in specific situations while in others i tend to excel beyond the norm. my topic of interest i would assume is religion/spirituality, as i've collected a library of books that i keep along with myself locked away in my apartment. at the same time i work at an airport and deal with many different people from many different cultures on a day to day basis without any real difficulty. someone told me that i deal with my anxiety by "going into character" and that i learned this coping mechanism through theater arts. i can see how this would be true, but i don't feel like the condition is maladaptive to my quality of life. i cannot understand what could keep me away from the table at a family thanksgiving dinner but simultaneously not prevent me from reading a ten page eulogy at my grandfathers funeral in front of 400 people. i guess what i'm looking for is knowledge on the condition and maybe feel a little less like an alien, and possibly meet others that share my inherent lifestyle- be they with asperger's or not.

Hi Jez,

I could never work at an airport or any closed in area like a shopping mall. I will go bazooka. I used to get really bad panic attacks in places with no windows. And then there are suddenly too many people.
