Hello!

My name is David and I am an aspie living in Quebec. I lived in Florida from my birth in 1981 until June 2005.

I am 24 years old and recently obtained my Canadian citizenship.

I am a self-diagnosed Aspie and found out about Asperger's when someone mentioned it out of the blue in a political discussion group on Yahoo. I looked up the definition and lo and behold, it fit like a glove. It put my whole life, quirks and all, into perfect perspective.

I am extremely interested in politics, history, computers and nuclear weaponry. I am well above average intelligence, but despite that fact, I was a mediocre pupil in school, especially high school.

I never had many friends and was often ridiculed.

Although I do indeed enjoy a certain degree of solitude, I am quite forlorn when it comes to romance. I have never been on a date or had a kiss. I am sometimes frustrated by that fact, however to say I am depressed would be a gross exaggeration. I will likely die a lonely old virgin... Anywho...

Hi David. Welcome to WP.

My obsession in the 4th grade was nuclear weapons. My teacher would frequently let me go to the library to read about them.

Now I'm ethically opposed to nuclear weapons, but I still find them fascinating.

Thanks for the welcome, Taz! Quebec City is quite beautiful. It is also one of the most friendly cities in Canada. I have an ancestor buried under one of the cathedrals there. His descendants were also buried there until circa 1950...

Hi, Antenna! It's nice to meet a fellow newbie. :-) I've been lurking here awhile and just decided to sign up. I have been on some Yahoo groups, though.

I too oppose nuclear weapons as they are cruel and rather metaphorical for the most base emotions and instincts of human psychology.

However, once a weapon is invented, it WILL be used. It has been, and logic dictates it will again. With George W. Bush and his band of merry idiots running around DC and tensions reaching a boil over Iran and the DPRK (North Korea), it may be sooner rather than later.

As a matter of fact, I see some rather eerie and disturbing parallels to the slow boil in tensions over the building Iran nuclear crisis and the slow buildup of hostilities and rather quick deterioration of relations as seen in the 1983 BBC docudrama "Threads", especially in light of the strong ties between Russia, China and Iran.

Threads is possibly the most psychologically profound yet most scientifically realistic of a global nuclear holocaust put forth on film. Dr. Carl Sagan himself was a consultant for the film. The scientific yet grossly depressing Ministry of Defence report of the war game "Square Leg" was included in the film.
