Jacalyn,
You might get more responses if you post in the Parent's Discussion forum ... but here goes with what I can suggest. First, you might want to find out what financial aid the school itself offers. Many private schools have some financial aid available to students who need it, although the amounts vary.
You could do a computer search for grants that might be available for individuals in your situation. There are lots of obscure, small grants and it would probably take a lot of time, but it might be worth it.
The other route would be to see whether your school district would privately place your son at this school. If the school district is truly not equipped to educate him, they might be willing. They are required, by law, to provide every child with a free, appropriate public education. When they can't do that at the local public school, they sometimes place students in private schools (at their expense). Have you started the IEP process? That starts with an evaluation. Wrightslaw has lots of information about the law for special education, and they have a free e-newsletter. The site is so big that it can be overwhelming, but it is still a good place to start.
