Hello. This my first time on this site. I'm kind of nervous...
I came upon WrongPlanet while searching for online support for people with Asperger's. I was diagnosed with it shortly after 2001, when my whole life had fallen apart. I have come a long way since then. I actually live in my own appartment with my two cats, where I take care of my responsibilities such as cleaning and cooking. Before my diagnosis I was a real mess. At the age of 21 I was sent to live at a group home for people with scizophrenia and other severe mental illness. The lack of freedom and privacy was awful. I was repeatedly moved out of one home into anotherfor several years. I was went to see many psychiactrists and put on all kind of drugs and endured all kinds of unbearable side effects. And then I just started going downhill. I suffered terrible insomnia and my temper and emotional outbursts that made the staff think I was a danger to myself and others. I was then kicked out shortly before Christmas and practically left to die in the hospital. I was labled as being "behaviourly" dysfuntional and the psychiactrist in the hospital told my mother I was "mildly mentally ret*d". Then, when she thought I might have Asperperger's she told my mother I shouldn't even know about it. My mother refused to lie to me. She told me everything. :) I didn't recover from my trauma overnight. I was still a mess for quite a while. But now I'm doing much better. But there problems I will always have because of Asperger's... I hope this story wasn't too long.

Hello lostonearth, welcome,

Don't feel nervous,
this is a friendly place ;)

Sounds like you didn't have a good psychiatrist...

Enjoy your stay on the Wrong Planet!

Scientist is right, this is a very friendly place. Try not to be so nervous if you can. By the time you hopefully can feel its a great supporting place.
By the way its weird to tell your mum you shouldnt be told about your AS. To many of us it has been word of lifesaving!
