I'm 36, but only discovered the concept of ASD a year or so ago. I haven't been formally diagnosed with anything but it's now apparent to me that I've been affected by this phenomenon. So now I've been slowly reexamining the events of my life and things are making more sense. Reading these forums have helped quit a bit!

Recently, I've felt overwhelmed by a sense of lost time. I now see how the depression and anxiety are connected to the ASD and am slowly beginning to unwind this mess. So far, I've managed this (as with most everything in my adult life) alone. I may yet discover a use for professional help, but I've done nothing in the past year that I couldn't have done 15 years ago. If I had only known...

Oh, and some player stats:
36/m
software engineer
childhood obsessions: astronomy, computers, sci fi books
Autistic/BAP: You scored 127 aloof, 123 rigid and 114 pragmatic
AQ: 45
EIQ: 62
HSP: 15
'Reading the mind in the eyes' test: 27
Aspie Quiz:
Your Aspie score: 133 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 56 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie
Your MBTI type: ISTP

"Hello, World!" eh? That has got to be the most overused programming cliche. I'm just learning computer science at university, and already it's getting annoying :P

Anyways, cheers and welcome. What languages do you know? (Programming languages, I mean). I'm somewhat fluent in BASIC and Java, and am learning C++.

An no wonder why!
Think about it, you've got the idea, and planned entirely, how to make the you own computer from scratch, using only common hardware (no IC's)!

Now you build it, and you have to test it in some way, so you fire: "Hello world!" into the RAM (In binary, with the correct intruction codes, and so on), And you are probably truly amazed when you see the first life from your computer!
A display, of some sort, reading: "Hello world!".

Amazing...

Those are three excellent languages to learn! You might want to look into C# as well. It's rather Java-like and looks good on a resume.

I've picked up/maintained fluency in several for different situations. I use C# extensively these days for desktop applications. For real time embedded applications, plain old C with a touch of assembly is the only way to go. I find excuses to use XSL just for the fun of it! Languages I used to be fluent in at one time: C++, basic, BLISS (I'm old), Standard ML, and (if you consider them languages) lex/yacc.

Lol! I like the classics, too! Welcome, DegenerateCase! I like that you put your stats. I'm not diagnosed either and got similar numbers. I've only recently really learned about Aspergers. All I know is that I'm really enjoying this forum and that it seems like I have more in common with people here than anywhere else! Have fun!
