Just out of curiosity, and this may have been answered fifty times already...and this is the only "all about me thread" I have

...
anyway, is there a good reason to get diagnosed at my age? I'm 39. I kind of feel like I have a good handle on who I am and what my basic strengths and weaknesses are. I will admit that it is interesting to see some similarities between my traits and others described here so that is pretty helpful.
But is there anything I would gain by it? Seeing as there is no "cure" and I'm not really looking for a cure or to be "fixed" I am wondering why I should. Other than being curious about it.
The only really good reason I can think of is one of my sons acts a lot like me when I was his age. He's six now. I'm hoping I can see a few things and try to head them off to make his life a little easier later but if some things are what they are, then he will be too, if that makes sense.
Anyway...any thoughts?

I'm a similar age to you (35) and I am strongly considering going to a pysch to see if I have Aspergers. Just got to get up the courage to ask my GP for a referral. The reason why I'm doing this is so I can better understand myself and get a grip on my anxiety and why I do the types of things I do.
