Guess type 1 bipolar wasn’t good enough. No. Now, post ADOS & some lengthy, not real fun interviews - “I strongly suggest you come out to people you’re trying to interact with that you’re on the spectrum, or they’ll just think you’re too strange &/or dumb &/or antisocial.” So, we are rather bummed & very confused.

What? Who told you that? No, don't just walk up to strangers and spill the beans. They might not understand what it is, or be even more put off if they do know. I could believe that AS could be subject to dual/multiple diagnoses. At one point, when I thought I had finally gotten over my antisocial tendencies and saying things that put people off in school and elsewhere, I believed that I might have had a mood disorder that was straightening out on its own. At one point I saw someone about my issues and he wanted to put me on anti-psychotics.

To “sgrannel” - avoiding strangers is good policy. The doctor meant places like where I intern, which would be a community action agency, so we tried it with our supervisor & the e.d. Next day at 5 o’clock, it’s “By the way, ...” About half my workweek got blown out. Well, we never seem to learn. Also, neuroleptics - you may want to avoid them. We have been force-fed gigagrams over the yrs & I’m suspicious that their mechanism of action would be to iron flat the surface of the cortex; i.e., one’s brain is reduced to baby food.

I agree, though I can't speak for everyone about not needing neuroleptics. I tried them briefly, and was told that I looked like I was acting better, but I didn't feel better, for example, being around people still made me tired and I still had meltdowns. I understand many of these drugs are supposed to treat the positive symptoms of psychosis, such as hearing voices, and I don't have those symptoms. It's meant to treat something I don't have.
