Hi,
I have a 14 yr. old son with Aspergers. We live in the USA. He is constantly dealing with teasing and he is really tired of it. It's hard for him to connect but he keeps on trying. I'm now hoping that he can find some friends on this site to talk with from time to time. I've just set him up with his own e-mail account.
A little about him:
He's 14, he loves Playstation Games, horror movies, Godzilla, Chaotic trading cards. He also really likes the old horror movies with Bela Lagosi (sp?), Lon Chaney, and Boris Karloff as well as comedy classics such as Abbott and Costello and the 3 Stooges. Aside from that he really likes the movie Avatar A LOT!! !
I am thinking of having him sign up for this website so that he can read some of the posts and hopefully find others that he can relate to. But in the meantime, I'm on the hunt for sites that offer e-mail pen pals for kids with AS so that he can have another kid to talk to.

I don't think such a site exists.

If you're going to find him a penpal this is probably the place to find one.

Otherwise, welcome.

Welcome to WrongPlanet, and good luck finding a penpal for your son. :)

I'm just not sure if there are penpal sites geared specifically towards those with AS, though I can't say I'm positive. :?

Well I'm 14 but I don't have AS and I live in the UK and I'm not really into any of those things but I would be happy to talk to your son :D I also have problems with teasing and stuff because I'm very different from other teenagers even though I don't have AS. People think I'm weird because I am interested in politics and history and hate the popular culture sort of thing.

Just a quick warning: If you're looking for pen-pals, be sure to realise that you can't trust everything that everyone says. Someone that claims to be a child/teen could actually be an Elderly Adult out to get your son. Remember the basic rule: Don't meet up with anyone in real life - only type virtually to each other etc.

That said, I, myself, am aged 14. I'm currently predicted A's for my GCSEs, I was left completely light-headed after watching how brilliant Avatar was in 3D but, however, I'm not too fond of Comedic Movies (Austin Powers and The Love Guru are exceptions) or Horrors. I have huge interests in computing, gaming, The Internet, the Three Kingdoms period of Ancient Chinese history and British Etiquette - yet most I can never seem to apply into a real-life situation. My interest in the internet has made me learn how to create very basic websites on Invisionfree/Zetaboards, My computing/gaming interest has given me a wish to study some form of computer programming language (and, hopefully, become an MMORPG designer in the distant future), The Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history has... Well... Given me an ability to boast about it and my interest in British Etiquette (which I can never apply to real life) has, in my eyes, given me a better ability to judge others on their manners.

Online is probably not the best place to find a pen pal for your son. You never know who anyone could be & you could end up setting him up with a 30 year old pedophile, unbeknownst to you. It's best to try to find a local group for children on the autism spectrum & meet with their parents in person. Then, if you have children around the same age & they are both willing, they could become penpals. It's very dangerous for children on the internet. Anyone can claim to be anyone they want & I'm sure you don't want your son to come to any kind of harm. Good Luck :)

Hi :D , I have a 13 year old son who has Aspergers, and I am also setting him up on this site - not really sure what to do, anyway we live in Scotland and he also has problems with bullying etc...this is why I was looking for a chat site for him. He would love to have a pen friend someone likeminded he could chat to, he likes football, xbox360 and video games.
He is a lovely boy that is just a little missunderstood, hope4 you will be in touch.

Hi, my name is Michael Aldrete, and I'm 18-years-old aspie (although not officially diagnosed with Asperger's by a doctor). I read your post subject (as well as the replies), and I'm annoyed--highly annoyed--that anyone would make fun of someone else due to something completely and utterly out of their power. I was teased a lot when I was in elementary school and part of middle school, and it was annoying. It hurts and I can see why your son is tired of the teasing. I might be able to help by online communications, but always keep in mind that it is much easier to hide your identity on the web than it is in person (and therefore, danger is much more likely to lurk in the domain that is the internet). So, be careful, particularly if you and/or your son plan on using the Internet.

--Sincerely:

Michael Aldrete

PS: I like video games...a lot. I particularly like strategy games. I also like most Mario games, Zelda, and bomberman games. And as for playstation games, I really like Spyro games (as well as many other games).

Hello and welcome!
I've always liked the idea of pen pals, they're better than online friends you talk to on instant messenger, there's not a lot you can say on instant messenger. But with emails you can send full length letters to eachother and I've always wanted to do that.

So you could add me as a potential pen friend for your son if you want, here's some information about me and my interests and that:
I am aged 17 and I go to sixth form college and I'm studying art, religious studies and psychology. I come from staffordshire in England. My interests are religion especially the christianity vs science argument and I have a strong interest in paganism, the internet and all the things that go on on the internet, psychology, mental disorders and I've got a bit of an obsession with ASD's since joining this forum and I also have an interest in great apes (especially bonobos) and evolution. I like to think and talk about deep philisophical things and no topic is too heavy, my particular favourite thing to think about right now is how life will evolve in the future and what will happen after the humans have either died out or evlolved into something else and what animal might take over next. I have an opinion on a lot of things and I like to voice them, I don't like to keep my view points inside. I like dark humour with plenty of sarcasm thrown in and I like to make jokes about myself and my AS because I don't want to take it too seriously and be miserable about it. I analyse films a lot and I'm always quick to spot faults or cliches, so I'm not easy to please when it comes to films. I also like to tell people about my dreams, I have had a life long obsession with dreams and I have a really good memory when it comes to dream recall. I also love to draw people and mermaids.
I hope to hear back from you :)

And another thing, I know loads of people have said this but do be careful about adding random people from the internet and make sure you've got enough information about them. I'm not a 40 year old pedo of course.

I'm older than 14, but not by that much, perhaps just get him an account here, it's relaxing to read and post here, for me anyway. Maybe it'll work for him...
