Hi, my name is Amanda. My son was diagnosed with Autism 3 years ago. He is now 4 years old, and he does not speak at all, ever. He doesn't even have one word, never says Mama or Dada, nothing.

Then there's my husband. He's emotionally absent and refuses to be seen for or about anything pertinent.

As such I feel I've been left in a vacuum where I have emotionlessness all around me. The kind of person I am, emotional pain hurts like physical pain, so I'm constantly feeling like I'm being crushed or pulled apart.

But... that's why I'm here. Somewhere, anywhere where I can get and offer some support.

Welcome Amanda, I think you will find these forums very good, and the people supportive. I have! My son has Aspergers, and my daughter is most likely some type of high functioning autism - we are just waiting for the official diagnosis. I know it has been very stressful for everyone here, especially when family either does not understand, or do not want to. I am glad this forum is here for us.

Hey, Amanda. My six year old son has autism, too, and he wasn't speaking at first either. He barely speaks still, but sometimes he will say mommy, and every once in a blue moon he will even give me a kiss! I know it must be really rough right now. Anyway, nice to meet you.

You're all very kind. I'm still at a point where coming here makes me feel the intensity of the situation a lot more acutely, so if I'm quiet at first, please understand, it's because I'm on the verge of crying. Heh. This isn't me. Once I get more comfortable I should be more personable.
