My name is Alex Sarmiento, and I'm a newcomer to Wrong Planet. I'm 28 years old, gay, Filipino-American, and a resident of Vallejo, California, USA. For those of you not familiar with it, it is about 30 minutes drive from San Francisco on I-80. I have not been diagnosed with anything related to the autism spectrum yet, but I am pretty sure that I have something. I've always struggled in school and in finding a job and in maintaining relationships with people, but it has only been in the past year that I have come close to putting a name on it. One of the reasons for me joining this community was to find resources. I would like to be screened for autism, but I can't find anything in the San Francisco Bay Area that will help me.

Thanks, everybody. I'm still having trouble finding resources. I called the local branch of the Autism Society, but there was a message saying that no one was able to answer because the place was understaffed. I think the resources are there if you're a child with autism, but if you're an adult trying to get a diagnosis for yourself... well, that's difficult. No one's been able to point me in the right direction.

You may want to check the phone book for the location of your nearest "Mental Health Services." Look in the government pages under "County Government." If they cannot help you there, perhaps they'll be able to put you in touch with an organization that can. Good luck, Alex.

I would think the Bay Area would have something for autism, given its liberal nature and such. By the way, I'll be in San Francisco tomorrow through Sunday. Should be a fun time. Going to a fundraising workshop for the entire weekend. Won't be on the computer during the time.

Alex, if you can't find resources that suit you in SF, try Silicon Valley.

I couldn't figure out the meaning of that jagged stripe. I have that problem... very slowwwly, jokes sink in sometimes days.... or weeks, then it dawns on me.

Besides Charlie Brown being the one asking, "Why is everyone always picking on me?"

Charles Schulz himself is a suspected Aspergers.
