Hi all,
The 'system' caught up with me this Spring with a diagnosis of AS. Although, I've had the usual anti government tendencies, lack of timing in social interactions, and a big fat 'zero' on my professional jobs resume', I managed to have 'fun' for 45 years until last week. Thankyou loving family, prosperous community, and the leadership of the church! Now, I look forward to social skills training (tab: $3380 for a week and a half..ouch), a period of adjustment, and, yes, the little voice inside of me that says "what were you thinking! You should of just let go of your 'Lenten goal' of getting tested for Asperger's".
I admit, I feel a bit superior sometimes...especially after reading that first paragraph....maybe they were right...the typical person goes thru 5 stages after hearing Asperger's D.
1) Denial
2) Anger
3) Bargaining
4) Depression
5) Acceptance
I also want to say 'hello' to the wrongplanet community. I am a 45 year old male, good looking, periods of 'luck' and others not so hot. I love to participate in online forum in astronomy, aquariums (at one time lol), and now ...maybe...AS. It took me a period of about 8 months from the time I first heard the term Asperger's to a diagnosis, with thousands of miles of driving and quite a bit of doe spent. And YES I am the middle child of 5 boys born to Italian-American immigrants (1st and 2nd gen.). My most unique/special work experience was the building of spec. homes in the early nineties, just as the 'boom' was starting. This past year was also a learning experience, having returned to college after 20 years to complete pre-nursing courses. What next? Well, I sure could use advice....mostly on how to listen, but also on how to keep my 'chin up' during periods of uncertainty.....unemployment, relationships, heavy issues such as whether to take drugs or not, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, how to live a life of gratitude.
Thats it.
