Hey guys. I'm 27 and from Dallas tx. it's hard for me to discuss this stuff because for a long time I always thought of it as something to be ashamed of. I'm not officially diagnosed but it would just be a waste of time and money. my mother searched for years to find something that describes me. one day she found an article in the newspaper describing aspies. and it fit me perfectly. I grew up in that time frame where if you weren't 'normal' you were ADD and they wanted to put you on ridlin. my mother fought that. but knew that there was something. I was always a social outcast never able to make friends. relationships never last long and the only way I interact with the world is through my computer. as I've gotten older I've made 2 friends. had a marriage that didn't last because she couldn't accept me for who I am. and generally still have a hard time relating to anything that doesn't require massive attention to detail there is much more this is just the stuff that comes to mind right now at 4 am. but here I am and maybe I van learn from you guys and pass on what I've learned.

I remember when I reluctantly approached counseling. My life was in complete shambles and the abyss due to horrible socialization skills and failed interactions -- so many blunders and misjudgments... and well, I had went so long alone, I was diagnosed with outright PTSD upfront, no questions asked. I was desperate due to traumatic nightmares...

Anyway... they did what I asked. They prescribed something for nightmares. I begged them for something to make me happier, 'cos of the horror going on in my life at that moment, (but I'm not bipolar)... I was an undiagnosed Aspergers Syndrome person, Autism was never suggested... but I took what they prescribed for PTSD and asked the prescribing Doc "Will these pills make me friendlier... where people will like me? Where I can get along better with people?" (That was in 1995). I knew there was some mysterious underlying issue that had consumed my life... where all I had was isolation. He (the prescribing doc) looked at me sooooo strange, like my question went over his head, or at least in one ear and out the other.

There's no magic bullets for Aspergers/Autism ... no cure.... no medication.

This much i'm sure we all know by now. But is it really something that needs to be cured? Personally i don't think so. Different isn't wrong.

You're right. There needs to be awareness in the general population. If they'll start being more truthful (literal), say what they really mean and stop being such subtle, manipulative people... the world would be a better, kinder place for everyone to live.

Cool. Hey thanks for letting me know that I am not the only one out here, or that I a freek. I am a few years older, well ok im 32, but still feel like Im in my 20's. I was diagnosed with A.D.H.D. same thing as A.D.D. jus more hyper. I was on ritalan, thank god you did not take it. I litarly almost died, when my parents pulled me off of it, I was in 6 grade, 4'3' and 85 lbs. Relax I am of a normal hight and weight now thankfully. I was starving, not a growing disorder.
I am glad I am not a freek. I just cant make friends, and really like my computer. I have never been fully diagnosed but hey, I am a young woman who likes to chat, about guys and movies.
