Hello! I'm new to this forum. I'm not Swedish, but have lived in Uppsala and visit Stockholm often. I'm hoping to move there sometime next year and would love to hear from Swedish aspies.

I'm a male-to-female transsexual with bipolar disorder and acid reflux. The Asperger's is undiagnosed but my psychiatrist for the bipolar has said I probably have it, it's just that she feels diagnosing an adult who doesn't need extra help is pointless. Maybe I'll find another shrink at some point...

I'm into making stuff using ancient arts and crafts. I've had two careers; Engineering and Archaeology. A bit outdoorsy. Music taste includes Goth, Industrial, Electronica, Folk, Rock, Pop. Read humorous fantasy and thrillers. SF movies. Big Bang Theory.

Maggie

You like some of the things I do. Swedish, however not from the area, I totally hate the capital.

Thanks everyone! I'm not very experienced with forums, so I haven't yet figured how to display just my age, which is 40. I realized the Asperger's about 6 months ago, when my daughter was suspected of having it (though she's not after all).

What's wrong with Stockholm? Well, I guess it's not for everyone. But I do love other parts of Sweden. For instance, Fjällbacka, where my ancestors lived is just gorgeous. Though not much to do unless you like fishing. I've tried applying for positions in Göteborg too but no luck there. And a few other places 1-2 hours from Sthlm, such as Sandvik, Fagersta, or Västerås. To be more specific about my arts & crafts some examples are nålbindning, chain mail jewelry, egg tempera on panel, fingerweaving, and leatherworking.

I am from Stockholm. Sodermalm to be precise.

I have been diagnosed with Asperger's by a psychiatrist and after reading Atwood's book I can clearly see myself fitting the diagnosis.

I don't feel cursed or blessed in any great sense. My biggest problem is my incapability to have a natural way to have more social interactions. I can talk and be polite no problem, but I only have one real friend and don't get me started on girls. Being a virgin at 21 really makes me feel like a pariah, especially when I have pretty good looks.

But I have a great family and I live in a stable country, and I guess my syndrome has helped me acheive good grades and get enrolled at an education that will be very useful for my future. But feeling so detached and alienated from most of society and it's inhabitants is painful.

I'll persevere.

I live in a city (I can quite easily get to Stockholm), but I prefer non city life. I'd like to live closer to nature and maybe have more animals around as well.

@Castanea (sorry, I'm feeling too lazy to quote):
Söder is a nice part of Sthlm. I use to play in Irish sessions once in a while at the Bishop's Arms. Social problems are no stranger to me, but I think over the years I've learned to accept it more. I'm on the introverted side and absolutely need some time to myself. I think too, I try not live up to NT expectations anymore and just enjoy life the way I know how. The internet is certainly a godsend. Work relationships, where you can't choose who to be around, is a lot more challenging. I was a virgin until 21. Probably not all that uncommon here.

@frag:
Actually, most of my life I've lived on the outskirts of cities where there's some nature and real peace and quiet, but close enough to make trips for hobby supplies, see a friend, or get a small dose of nightlife. Pets use to be in the picture (I'm not too hypersensitive), but keeping anything was a problem when I worked as a field archaeologist not always knowing where I'd spend the night. What I've had lately are all the squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, deer, and birds eating stuff in the yard :)
