Found this website a few weeks ago and figured that well I'm being unproductive today I might as well introduce myself.

I'm a 20 year old female from Western Canada. I'm taking electrical engineering in University (one full year and an extra left) which is what led me, in a round about way, to this website. I've been having some trouble with paying attention and taking notes in class, which led to some not all that nice marks, and decided to look into why I was having so much trouble. I haven't really talked to anyone about this yet, I'm afraid they won't believe me (especially my parents, they just think I'm being lazy) .

Anyway, I found this website, did a bunch of reading and took some self-tests, all of which said I very likely have AS ( I know they're not super accurate but it was nice to have a separate view).

The biggest things that lead me to believe the self-tests is my:

-aversion to reflected or bright light
-eye contact issues
-inability to read the emotions of real people (I'm better at reading actors but they usually make it more obvious)
-social deficits
-aversion to speaking on a telephone unless its a close friend
-obsessions

My current obsessions are:

Television
-sci-fi television (Stargate, Warehouse 13)
-medical dramas (Trauma, E.R., House)
-and much more (we watch a lot of television, about 3-5 hours a day is recorded during tv season)
-action movies

Books
-sci-fi and fantasy
I'm told I read books like they're on fire. If its a new book I will read it in under a day. ~150 pages an hour

Runescape - MMORPG

Anything with swords, swordfighting or general medieval-ness (or dragons, phoenixes (phoenii?) etc.)

Anything with heroes and/or heroism in it (tv, movies books). Its good for my hero complex. =\

I'm working on a medieval / sci-fi action story (with time travel :D ). Maybe I'll post some of it here once I get more finished.

I'm glad I found this website full of people who think more like me than most NTs do.

It's good to be here. :D

- sorry about the whole stream of consciousness writing thing, this is why the book writing is going slow (so much editing...)

Hello. My name is Scotty N. I am also from Alberta, Canada. I am 41 years old, and recently found out that I have AS. I was diagnosed from a battery of tests. Some of my AS traits are as follows:

1. Exellent rote memory. I can remember lots of trivial and non-trivial facts.

2. Literal thinking. I take everything I hear and see, very literally.

3. Difficulty understanding jokes. I get What is said, but do not understand the meaning. For example, if someone said, " Get off your high Horse", I would tell them that I am not on a horse, so theres no need. It encites Laughter at times.

4. Exteme repetitive obsessivness with a parochial range of interests. In my case, it is an abnormal interest in fly fishing for trout. I have a collection of hundreds of fish photograghs, and I ramble on and on about this subject. I am also an artist, and when I work, it is almost impossible to break my focus or concentration. I can focus on working at a painting for months at a time. Never stopping until I am done. Countless hours of work go into my Art.

5. I am a very good mimic, and I imitate what others do in social situations qiute well.

6. I tend to avoid eye contact with most people. When I do make eye contact, I stare at people inappropriately too long, which invariably elicits a hoatile response.

7. I have messy handwriting, and walk rather stiffly.

8. I lack empathy for others. I find it very difficult to feel what other people are feeling.

9. I am almost always ignored in any social setting. And I prefer not to be around people.

10. My speech is abnormally loud sometimes, and I tend to speak without emotion.

These are just some of the traits I have. Apparently, you need to be diagnosed with 80 or so specific "aspie traits", in order to be defined a true asperger syndrome candidate. The reason is that most people have a few of these traits, but only one person in about 4,000 will possess enough of them to be labeled Aspergers syndrome.

hi fellow albertan! we need better diagnostic possibilities here in alberta, methinks... hard to find a reasonable, and inexpensive route to getting diagnosed here.
