Newbie in denial

Hi. New.

I was dx'd with "signs of Aspergers" a few years ago. It really gets on my nerves because it's almost an anti-diagnosis. I know I have some Aspie tendencies, but I'm really social and not "flat" in expression, so I wonder where on the spectrum I really am (or not).

Are there other people here who live in this screwed up limbo?

My son is a bit like you, although the school wasn't afraid to give him the AS label for the simple fact that they had to or he couldn't get services.

He is very social (although not necessarily good at it) and very expressive. In fact, both are true of many AS today, and there are probably a variety of reasons for that. Individuals on the spectrum are exactly that: individuals.

thanx for the response. since i'm female and 45, i try to tell myself it's the cummulation of experience that puts me on the border. but it's nice to know there is someone younger with the same issues - kind of tells me that all those younger eras (yes, eras) when i went home feeling like an outcast weren't necessarily my problem (dern NTs, j/k). heck, i still go home like that most days. i'm just having issues with my sociability getting in the way of something definitive. i absolutely hate grey when it's really supposed to be black and white. on paper. just friggin' say so - yay or nay.

i don't care about the final decision. i just want a FINAL decision.

just an update: i literally just came home from another visit with a local psych, and my "signs" of Asperger's is now official. I am <quote>a well-adjusted Aspie</quote>. it's good to have a definitive answer, finally!

we'll find out next week if i'm also BPD lol

You sound like my husband who insists he's not AS, because he's friendly and expressive. :) But he definitely has strong tendencies.

I'm trying to cope with talking to him about it right now... not sure how to address it sometimes.

How are you, the responses on these greeting posts are kinda thin..

does it really need to be addressed?

from the dsm iv:

(III) The disturbance causes clinically significant impairments in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

if it isn't causing him "significant" problems....

just asking.
