I had always wondered what made me different, what made me able to be so sarcastic and humorous but usually oblivious when it was directed back at me. Countless conversations where topics would shift and I was left behind, or people said a certain phrase and I took it too literally.
It became worse when I left college and had to survive interviews … during one interview I was told that some of the job would be "stocking shelves," and apparently that was a metaphor. I was so embarrassed.
Anyway. I'm not sure if I have full-blown Asperger's … I haven't been able to get a test and was never diagnosed. I knew enough about how other people behaved I was able to play along for a long time. So I'm here partly to see where I fit in the spectrum. But in general the more I read about Asperger's and related conditions (gluten/casein allergy most recently), the more it explains my life as I've experienced it so far.
I'm 26 years old, btw. Nice to meet you.
