In case you clicked on one of my posts and wondered who is this person? Are they for real?
The answer is "Yes", quite real, and my answers are honestly my own opinion/experience. I can't actually answer any other way. Trolling/acting/impersonating are quite beyond me and a curious waste of time. Been an Aspie for so many years the agonies many post about, while familiar, are past. This is who I am and I accepted that a long time ago. Prefer to try for a positive attitude. That's my intent anyway.
Female, happily married (2nd time), one grown son, graduate degree in science and work in a research lab in the USA. DH is Dear Husband, DS is Dear Son in my posts.
Self-diagnosed, but it's was pretty darn obvious. After "analyzing" myself for years to try and "correct" my "faults" (and wondering why I was struggling while those around me sailed gracefully along). Previously diagnosed ADD, but only with minimum criteria. It fit, but not really. Unfortunately AS fits like a glove.
Some of the test results I achieved were quite astonishing to me. I honestly thought after all these years that I'd pretty much mastered the NT stuff, and the AS would hardly show.
AQ = 36 (32 - 50 = Aspie) Interestingly DH took the test for kicks and came up 23.
EQ: 9 SQ: 113 Talk about Extreme. Organization, I haz it!
EIQ: 55, subscale percentile 0.13%. That's the score that really floored me.
Face Blindness: 60% (43/72)
Reading Eyes: 28. Well at least I'm good at one thing.
Aspie Quiz: Aspie 124/200, NT 87/200.
HSP: 20 (over 14 = HSP)
Originally from a lower-income background, did not begin college until 23. Put myself through. Moved out of my parents house at 19. Got the MS by 33. Held a number of different full-time and part-time jobs both before and during college. Photographer (advertising), accounting, wallpaper, veterinary assistant, dog walker, department store clerk, lunchmeat slicer, nature center guide, teacher, plus various science positions. So yes, I really am a jack-of-all-trades. Never unemployed since age 16. Also worked with first husband who owned a small/family business for 10 years (while working my own job and going to college). So I have an insider's view of small business and what the boss struggles with. This should explain why I hang out mostly in the work/job forum.
Odd Fact: Virtually every job I've had my knick-name has been "Spock". Round about the third time that happened, with a completely new set of people, I started to wonder...........
Obsessions I've had all my life: Architecture, interior design, antiques, textiles, wallpaper, porcelain/china patterns (interested in everything from Meissen to Pfaltzgraff), ancient Chinese porcelains, cooking (even though I suck at it, I never give up), card games, Britain, maps and travel.
Recent Obsessions: real estate, kitchen design, castles, European royalty (follow them closely, wouldn't know a Hollywood actor if I was standing next to one in line) and volcanoes.
Hobbies. I like to travel and have been to every state east of the Mississippi, plus a few to the west, the Bahamas, British and American Virgin Islands (sailing), Puerto Rico, Ontario, Montreal and England. Like walking and hiking. Done a bit of solo traveling, for business and pleasure. Scariest Adventures: driving alone across Nebraska (thought I was on the moon, never saw so much 'nothing'), and snorkeling at the Wreck of the Rhone. Will play pinochle, bridge, gin rummy, hands& feet or Mah Jongg (tiles, yes, but more card-game-style than board game) any time anywhere. Skied for years, not any more.
Other Family. One Aspie sister, also has a master's degree and makes more than I do. Two NT sisters, one over-achiever that has all the friends in the family (some still from high school!), plus the token black sheep. Enough said.
Goals: Returning to Britain and next time renting a car! Seeing the castles of Poland, Germany and Belgium. Visiting China. Visiting Yellowstone (and being alive when the caldera blows). Becoming a Master Gardener or raising prize-winning cacti after I retire.
Things I Have Learned Thus Far From This Forum: 1) That I do funny things with my hands when walking. Working on it. 2) That NT's ask me why I am so quiet because they can't read from my bland expression that I am enjoying/following the discussion. Working on that too.
"Never Give Up! Never Give In!"
Hope this helps!
