Hello, I am trying to figure out where to start. My daughter was just diagnosed with Asperger's and I don't really know where to go from here. I am feeling a little overwhelmed to be honest. I am hoping that by talking with others I can gain some perspective. I would like to be as supportive and helpful as I can. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you very much!

I would recomend reading some books on AS and children. There are lots of good ones (My wife just read Parenting a Child with AS by Brenda Boyd and she thought it was good). My son is 6 and was diagnosed 6 months ago. We are still very much learning.

I am finding that just changing the way I communicate with my son in some small subtle ways can get better results and behavior.

Understanting and patience are Key.

Make sure to throw some female-specific reading into your pile. This year I've read "Asperger's and Girls", "Aspergirls" and "Women from Another Planet." The first of those three will help you understand your daughter if she's young. The other two are great for getting a taste of what she might grow into and what areas she may need extra support in as she approaches puberty and beyond.
