I've stumbled upon this site, people here appear to be nice and friendly, so I decided to register.
It took me quite a while to get familiar with myself. Many ppl have told me in the past that I seem to have, "autistic tendencies" as they called, but I'm always very skeptical towards such pseudo-psychological terms. I didn't know much about autism except what was shown in the media. I have found out about AS some time later after doing some slight research. However, the more I read about it, the more I realized how much it matched, but the thought that I might really be in the autism spectrum scared the hell out of me. I have put the topic aside many times and it made me shrug each time I got back to it. I'm not a friend of making self-diagnoses, since many ppl get a bit blinded by this and mistake often to have something they have not. Therefore, I was doubting my own self-evaluation for many years. I'm also not a type who would advertise such things, I have kept quiet trying to cope with life and ppl around as good as I could.
At some point, I could not be in denial anymore and decided to get back to this as much "neutral" as possible, evaluating back and forth. Those tests were a good start, but I also tried to read more stories from others and see how much I could relate to them. Again, it scared me how many things were so familiar to me, but then it was also a relief to know that I'm not alone.
Now, since I'm undiagnosed, it all might appear not well-grounded, but to be honest, I do not want an official diagnose for a few reasons. Since I do have a visual handicap, this is already enough of an issue (rather for others, than for me, but that's another story), so being put in the "autistic box" would make things even worse, in pretty much every aspect of my life. So in order just to get that "clarity" from a professional is not worth it. Where I'm from, anything from the autism spectrum is legally considered as a mental disability, so I'm not gonna let them make me look like some ret*d.
I am here to learn about myself and others, find better ways to cope with life, non-AS-friends, relationships of any kind... Looking forward to share thoughts and experiences, make new friends and also have some fun time!
