Hello everybody! Glad i found this site; it's really well done. You guys seem like cool people.

So...I guess sometimes I wonder if I have Aspergers. On one hand...I think I can identify with some of descriptions I read about Aspergers. On the other hand...well, I've seen therapists, and it hasn't even come up whether I have it or not. I have been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder and I've tested INTP on the Meyers Briggs test.

If you guys could share how and when you found out about your Aspergers, I'd really appreciate it. Does anybody know if you can have both SAD as well as Aspergers? or is that an impossibility? I've always thought it's one or the other. Anybody out there believe they had SAD at one point or another in their lives?

I have been seeing the one psychologist about various problems including depression and procrastinating too much for over a year, hmm, maybe two now.

Asperger's wasn't even raised. Eventually I mentioned the geek test in relation to being socially incompetent - and she said I wasn't Aspergers. And then she saw me outside her office with the receptionist that I didn't like, and she changed her mind. I looked up some more stuff, and did the big test at rdos, it's all pretty consistent.

But me and my psych both agree, it doesn't change the problems I have. It does change my attitude to them. I'm not trying to "erase" them anymore. The same strategies work on the adverse traits - whether I have a label or not.

At the moment psychs wishing to be immortal are gathering collections of personality traits and giving them labels which may or may not be useful (I wouldn't like the "bi-polar" one for instance). I think it is up to you to decide what information is useful and what isn't. There is still much argument and discussion about what is and isn't Aspergers or Autism or ADD etc.

I found out a few days ago (see the 'Confused' thread). I've seen shrinks for a lot of my life, and AS was never mentioned. I even took the AQ test a while ago, got a 'probable aspie' result, and shrugged it off thinking "wouldn't it be a relief if that's what it actually was". Doh! (slaps forehead) What made it click for me was browsing the fora here and recognising so many things in myself.

I don't think I've ever had SAD; if I did, it probably got lost in the general swamp of depression.

Anyway, welcome to WrongPlanet, it seems like a pretty cool place.

Thanks for welcoming me guys!

Hearing from you people really puts a face to the syndrome. And it was interesting to find out that some therapists don't seem to be able to recognize Aspergers right off the bat. As I'd suspected before, it's probably good to do some soul-searching in regards to this.

Hi, Sonya99.

Welcome to WP!

I too am an INTP. There often seems to be a correlation between INTPs and Aspies, I've heard.
