I followed a link posted by a member on a writing forum I belong to, and I'm glad I did.

My name's Kim. I'm the mother of a 12-year-old girl who's been diagnosed with Asperger's. I also believe I may have Asperger's myself. The traits my daughter shows that I've been told are due to AS are a whole lot like the way I was at her age. In high school, I referred to myself as "socially ret*d" because social cues made no sense to me and I had no idea how to make or keep friends. I still kinda don't... Over the years, I've had patient people in my life teach me "small talk" and how to act in certain social situations, but some things still don't make sense to me and I have to kind of feel my way along. Reading I've done about Asperger's in adults certainly sounds like me.

As part of some services I've begun getting to deal with PTSD and other issues, I've just been referred for an evaluation to find out whether I really do have Asperger's.

I'm looking forward to spending some time here and hopefully learning more about my daughter and myself.
